to absolutely detest faddy diets & quick fixes?

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 12:17

I am sure I am going to get flamed for this, but I can hide safely behind my namechange

It is my absolute biggest pet peeve, people who go on faddy diets that are bad for their health, and another is people who say they 'cant' give up chocolate/cake/takeaways.

As somebody with a variety of severe allergies/food intolerances, and health problems resulting from this - it bugs me no end when people put their health at risk volunatarily doing diets like atkins and the cambridge diet.

It goes against all medical advice, and is just a stupid lazy thing to do. Voluntarily putting yourself into ketosis? Do you people have no respect for your bodies? I reached ketosis through illness and was hospitalised and had to be put on a drip as it got so bad. It makes me sick that people are glad when they reach this, as if they are achieving something.

Maybe it is a quick fix, but it won't work in the long run, and you are putting your health at risk...for what? You need carbs, just be sensible. How hard is it just to eat a sensible balanced diet? Toast for breakfast is not going to stop you losing weight, nor is a jacket potato with a healthy filling...if you are serious about losing weight do it the right way and don't deprive your body of anything it needs! Yes, it may take longer, but at least you won't look washed out, thinning hair and low on energy.

There is so much choice out there for a healthy balanced diet, that you will be able to stick to! And I wish every day that I had that much choice of food to eat. And if you really really want to lose weight and be healthy, it is possible, just stop eating crap! Remember that food is meant to be there for nutrition, to keep your body working in the right way. Take care of your body, don't abuse it!

If you had had experience of being overweight and battling to lose it, had tried various diets and found that certain ones did not work - THEN I would be inclined to listen to you PetPeeve.

But under the circumstances you are simply spouting nonsense about a subject you clearly know absolutely nothing about. And you are rude, blinkered, insensitive and insulting into the bargain.

At least I am trying to do something about my weight. Perhaps you should try to do something about your attitude.

BariatricObama · 16/03/2010 19:28

petpeeve sounds like she has major isshoos with food beyond the allergy stuff

Oblomov · 16/03/2010 19:28

Op. too skinny. what a bitch. what a twat.

how is thta any different attitude, to yours ?

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:31

Oh FGS, yes it is such a shame that you eat too much. No, it's not. It's a shame to be hospitalised because everytime I tried to eat something it would come back up, to the point where I was in ketosis, and then to the point where I was so dehydrated and ill I almost lost my baby. Please do not compare your lack of self control to my health problems which almost killed me...I have zero control over these and so have no sympathy I'm afraid. I am sorry that you suffered such a loss, and that's how it affected you, but the point is starving yourself is not the way to fix it!

OP posts:
PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:33

Oblovomov because I can't eat anything more. Like physically can't, for health reasons. It's not a matter of choice, and like it or not, you do have a choice to stop eating so much.

OP posts:
Tortington · 16/03/2010 19:34

i don't think anyone is suggesting starvation as the way to go.

Whilst i understand that you have health problems and whilst i have sympathy for you in that regard, i don't think this means that your opinion is valid, or my opinion ( or those like mine) is less valid.

people have painfully detailed how it isn't as simple as putting the fork down, so it isn't simply a case of just not eating as much.

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:36

But that's what atkins and the cambridge diet are, starvation - that's what ketosis is. It's your body telling you that you are starving.

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:37

I don't need counselling to know why it pisses me off...I am well aware. It is a lazy way to do it, and it is unhealthy. That's my opinion.

petpeeve - don't you care that what you are saying is offensive and upsetting to some people?

sorry about your illness but ridiculing and demeaning other people isn't going to make you feel better

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:43

I am not ridiculing anybody...it is always the way on here, of course I am upsetting, because you don't agree with me. I made that comment 'put down the fork', and I apologise for that, I do...that was uncalled for, and I take it back. But everything else still stands.

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:46

And inzi I am part of the October 2007 group so yes you would be aware of me under my normal name.

Great. So fat people are disgusting. Obese people damage their health. Allowing yourself to get fat is disgusting. But fat people have to suffer to stop being fat - ie work hard at it not find a easy 'quick fix'. BTW no 'fad diet' is a easy - they are usually hard enough just a bit quicker maybe.

What about a 'quick fix' to get the worst of the problem under control and then do the sensible thing to keep it off. It's perfectly possible to do that. I cannot imagine what an impossible task it must be to contemplate losing 5 stone the 'hard' way. It's not surprising that people don't even start.

I think you sound remarkably intolerant and lacking in compassion. That might be why you get flamed on threads like these.

PetPeeveBonanza · 16/03/2010 19:51

Threads 'like these'?

No, it has never been one like this before. Of course obese people damage their health. Being a bit overweight is not disgusting, as long as the person is happy with themselves, what does it matter. Getting overweight to the point of it being life threatening? That is disgusting. People are dying from having no food...how can you not see how awful it is that people are dying from eating too much?!

OP posts:
amber1979 · 16/03/2010 19:51

PetPeeve the things you have posted here show a distinct ignorence about mental health problems in general. I responed earlier in agreement that the diet industry is a bad thing, you have heckled and derieded people. That is uncalled for.

How would you feel if I told you to simply stop having allergies? Not a reasonable request is it?

FrazzledBlob · 16/03/2010 19:52

What's upsetting is the offensive manner in which you are expressing your view it has very little to do with whether or not anyone agrees with you.

And yes I am low carbing. I am not lazy, stupid or anything else you wish to chuck at me. My weight issues were also triggered by loss but I guess that is just an excuse?

sungirltan · 16/03/2010 19:52

jennifer aniston has eaten the same things every day for years on end. or so i read.

yeh im not sure about this good food/bad food. surely it should be 'food you can eat lots of without worry' and 'food that should be only in moderation' and 'food that is a treat and eaten sparingly'

justallovertheplace · 16/03/2010 19:55

DP is that you?

I actually cannot believe the over reaction on this thread. I have not said anything that a doctor would not say, it is not a sensible way to lose weight, it is dangerous and nobody who had a good idea about nutrition would recommend it.

I do think it is lazy, and I find it disgusting the obesity is such a problem when people are dying of starvation. I don't see what is so terrible about what I have said?

Inzi I am by no means a sick individual, but obviously when you are on the other side of the argument you will see it like that. I don't find you to be very nice either now, which is a shame as I always thought you were.

PetPeeveBonanza -why do you feel the need to have name changed in order to express your opinion?
If you really are part of the oct 07 group then you have taken what someone has written in a very close group knowing exactly the reasons why they have chosen the weight lose path they have and spat it all back in their face.

If you're part of that group (oct 07)then you know darn well the terrible events that have happened to some of our members. I cannot believe you would then take them on in a thread like this...
