AIBU to be concerned that my wife may be addicted to MN?

I suspect that this one may get a reaction but my wife is spending more and more of her time on MN and it?s becoming a concern, perhaps even an addiction. What can I do? Am I the only husband that has observed this?

As soon as she is dressed in the morning she checks the computer and whenever I come back to the house after work she is on MN, typically leaving my two sons (3 and 5) to watch TV.

I?m unclear how often she logs on when I am not around but I?ve discovered her Nickname and having searched for her comments have found that she adds contributions at all times of day. Not a surprise as recently she?s bought a new laptop with dongle (?) so that she can login when out of the house and as such is a regular at coffee shops where she can now access MN on this computer. She may also be using it at the gym where she visits most days.

Thoughts appreciated, although unfortunately I can?t promise to monitor discussions 100% of the time!

Given the number of posts that are shocked that I may be their dh, and the fact that internet security is generally poor (ask all the tax avoiders), why do so many women (?) post comments that they don't want their dh to see on MN?

We have nicknames, its anonymous

thumbwitch · 12/03/2010 19:30

Most women don't let their DH know their nickname if they are posting stuff they don't want him to see!

My DH knows mine (but I only have one DS so it ain't you) but if there were anything I didn't want him to know about I would namechange.

ABetaDad · 12/03/2010 19:31

FatherOfTwoBoys - welcome. I strongly advise you make an immediate foray into the wider world of MN to discover exactly why your wife is addicted.

I suggest a few posts giving your views on post modern feminIsm, breast feeding, child birth and female fashion. A male point of view is always welcome here and my early posts in those Topic areas were very well received. Indeed it changed my life.

Go for it.

We tend to rely on the fact that our husbands see mumsnet as a group of dirty old women talking rubbish and have no interest in looking.

SonofMotherAndFatherofTwoBoys · 12/03/2010 19:35

daddy loves mummmy a lot thogh because he saved her life. I had a nightmare and went to their bedroom and daddy said mummy was choking and he had to give her that thing where you stand behind someone and bump them hard to get rid of the thing. Mummy was cross and daddy just said in a minute son.

I think my bruvva et all the biscits.

FatherOfTwoBoys For someone new to this forum you are very up on your acronyms........

oldenglishspangles · 12/03/2010 19:39

As long as your children know how to work the microwave I dont see what the problem is.

Marking my place.

Omg I NEVER turn up in time for a good, weekend mumsnet kickoff although I suspect this is a going to be a good natured bit of fun!

Off to catch up with the other thread...LOL!

SonofMotherAndFatherofTwoBoys · 12/03/2010 19:56

why are mummy and daddy shouting and what is a wanker?

teaandcakeplease · 12/03/2010 20:05

Don't worry sweetie, go and watch Eastenders I'm sure it was sky + recorded and put something in the microwave for your tea, as the biscuits are all finished

mspotatochip · 12/03/2010 20:07

I dunno mumsnet beats gin and or temazepam as an addiction imho. My dp tells me "did you ask mumsnet?" when we have a parenting/feeding/general household connundrum

FatherOfTwoBoys · 12/03/2010 20:07

Should I seek my mothers advice on this topic, or could that start a war?

Pumphreydidit · 12/03/2010 20:13

Why? Is your mother Attila the Hun?

JaneS · 12/03/2010 20:17

DP, darling, this is you isn't it?

How many times have I told you - I don't mind you using MN, I only mind when you call yourself Justine and write to the papers.

hes got it evry where

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 20:36

DH knows my nickname and would never search on it, though I said he could.

He has new found respect for mumnset since he came to the party though. Don't stop him getting pissed off at my addiction.

MN can be a mother's ruin! It is also a mother's sanity saver, and there are worse things for her to be addicted to. Stick around and you will see why

Julezboo · 12/03/2010 20:42

I escaped about 9 last night but am back on the MN first thing this morning. I also am tempted to start commenting on other threads.

Should I give in or fight the addiction now???
