AIBU to be concerned that my wife may be addicted to MN?

I suspect that this one may get a reaction but my wife is spending more and more of her time on MN and it?s becoming a concern, perhaps even an addiction. What can I do? Am I the only husband that has observed this?

As soon as she is dressed in the morning she checks the computer and whenever I come back to the house after work she is on MN, typically leaving my two sons (3 and 5) to watch TV.

I?m unclear how often she logs on when I am not around but I?ve discovered her Nickname and having searched for her comments have found that she adds contributions at all times of day. Not a surprise as recently she?s bought a new laptop with dongle (?) so that she can login when out of the house and as such is a regular at coffee shops where she can now access MN on this computer. She may also be using it at the gym where she visits most days.

Thoughts appreciated, although unfortunately I can?t promise to monitor discussions 100% of the time!

actually in all seriousness internet addiction is now a recognized addiction.

And heavy internet use has also recently been linked to depression.

I know there have been mumsnetters in the past whose relationships have suffered due to their dhs' heavy use of computer game sites, so it's not beyond the relms of possibility that there are women who are addicted to mn/other websites.

AIBU to shout 'TROLL'?!

MaMight · 12/03/2010 18:30

OP - hello darling, could you flick the kettle on when you come through? Thanks.

FatherOfTwoBoys · 12/03/2010 18:32

Oh Dear. Just looked at some of her posts and some of them seem to involve Dittany. Is that really that bad?

The boys are now sitting with me on the PC helping me type!!!

yy

notevenamousie · 12/03/2010 18:33

This is a windup, surely?

wannaBe · 12/03/2010 18:34

it's a valid discussion though isn't it?

Even if you take out of the equasion that the op is probably posting as a wind-up, how many of us really do spend too much time on here? I know I do, and I can't be the only one.

dolphin13 · 12/03/2010 18:34

God thought you were my dh then. It is seriously addictive.
I wouldn't worry I manage to throw mine the odd scrap they wont suffer. They are probably loving all the extra spongebob.

where is your wife now

heQet · 12/03/2010 18:37

It is a very valid discussion, wannabe.

It is possible to become addicted to MN and for that to impact on your relationship. I know. It's happened to me. My husband has certainly complained. I used to come home and log straight on. I'd talk to you lot before I'd talk to him!

If OP is going through that, then I don't blame him for being concerned. If it's a joke then big deal, it is still going to be real for some people and therefore worth talking about.

Mscombobulated · 12/03/2010 18:37

give her more bumsex, not only will she be happier, it will give her something to post about on a Friday night

heQet - Thanks, but;

  • we have a cleaner (I was home the other day and had to show her how to use the Dyson - separating the nozzle bit that reaches under the sofa etc). DW and cleaner couldn't figure it out themselves.
  • I usually get the boys to school/nursery in the morning

Am not a troll

ehhhr are you my dh?

heQet · 12/03/2010 18:40

So your wife doesn't do the cleaning. What does she do during the day while the kids are at school? Work from home?

I can see how it can get addictive.
Its instant gratification

You type something
Someone answers (even if its don't be such a knob)

You can even get kudos for thread killing.

I still don't see how you MN at the gym..I'd fall off the (very slow moving) treadmill.

FatherOfTwoBoys · 12/03/2010 18:42

Mscombobulated - you ladies may share your sex lives online but sorry am not going there!!

Mothers Day sorted...the boys have done cards and I have sorted cards and flowers.

Need to go offline for a moment as boys are fighting.....

Why mention Dittany? I call troll, also, how does a DH know all the lingo - and how the hell would you know who dittany is?

JollyPirate · 12/03/2010 18:43

Excellent, I have wine in the house, Pringles and a DS going to bed shortly (although may find it difficult to remain there). This is just the sort of Friday night thread I need.

JackSpratt · 12/03/2010 18:44

Dittany to be fair was mentioned earlier on in the thread.

Though the I like Lenin was a bit (rubbing hands on trousers) creepy.
