to not want to go on a caravan park holiday DH won through work?

I've checked out their website and I just don't think I can do it. Basically, the caravan home is owned by another employee through a sort of time-share scheme (?) so it is not possible to upgrade to one of the nicer homes in the park. I know that it is only a week and I am effectively passing on an almost free holiday but I absolutely hate that kind of set-up having discovered the world as an independent traveller over the years.

If we don't go, the 'owner' would probably know as his friend 'owns' the plot next door and will be there when we are meant to go. He keeps telling dh about the karaoke nights, "the best cabaret shows in the UK" and the huge breakfast buffet - these are things I would actively avoid in a holiday of my choice. Dh has already confirmed that he does not have any annual leave booked for those dates.

Is there a polite way of getting out of it?

I'm getting very confused then Lyra - you then went on to say "Maisie, all the holidays I've mentioned have been in school holidays. I have two boys at primary school and we never go away in term time. I just spend hours on the net hunting out bargains".

The May holiday is a long weekend - so I'm now wondering which May holiday you mean?

LyraSilvertongue · 12/03/2010 23:06

Half term obv. Do your children have different dates?

LyraSilvertongue · 12/03/2010 23:12

Btw, I don't think the OP was a troll.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 12/03/2010 23:28

They must do - we're in Scotland, so only have a long weekend in May. We've 2 weeks at Easter, then the long weekend in May and then the summer holidays start at the very end of June.

you don't have to do the "caravan park" stuff just because you're staying there.

We stayed in a caravan park 2yrs ago and barely used any of the site facilities, just went out everyday and did other stuff in the area.

LyraSilvertongue · 13/03/2010 00:04

We have a week beginning May 28.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 13/03/2010 00:05

No, not a UK wide thing.

LyraSilvertongue · 13/03/2010 00:11

Yes, I realise that now as I have a friend with children in Scotland who seems to have very different holidays to my Dc.
We seem to be clashing a fair bit tonight Maisie

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 13/03/2010 00:16

We certainly are! It's way past my bedtime, and I'm getting rather grumpy as a result. Perhaps it's time I put my high horse back in his stable and hit the hay

We had a great haven holiday once ..my ds won the cool dude competition [proud]

LyraSilvertongue · 13/03/2010 00:31

Let's agree to disgree then Maisie?

NonnoMum - great minds think alike!

We have had a few caravan park holidays in the past. And loved them. it is not compulsory to eat their food/watch their entertainment/join in with the karaoke competition etc. We always used it as a base to explore that part of the country. This year we can't even afford that, so will be having a few days out from home instead. So yes, YABVU and snobby.
