I went for an interveiw, last Tuesday, at a pre school who are looking for a Nursery Nurse, It went ok, I think.
The Manager said she would get back to me with her decision by last friday, I have however, not heard from them at all??
Is this what happens nowdays?? Prospective employers dont bother getting back to the applicant??
This is the 1st interveiw Ive had in 20 yrs.

Would it be unreasonable for me to send an email asking if they've made a desicion yet, is what I really want to know?
Or is it too soon for them too have made up their minds?

I don't think it would be unreasonable at all, just make sure it's very politely worded!

Good luck

If you don't get it though, it's also perfectly acceptable to ask for feedback on the interview. It's really important to do this IMO, to make your chances better for the next interview.

FWIW I've just got a job after 4 months of looking and 3 interviews.

No, email them. It could easily be that a communication has gone astray. I'd email and say just that: you were informed that you'd receive their decision on Friday, and you haven't; you'd like to check and ask if an email has gone astray?

After all, they want to hire someone who'll chase up contacts in a job, so why not be proactive about the job offer?

I think what they do often actually is offer it to their preferred candidate, and wait for them to confirm absolutely before informing the rest of the candidates, just in case they say no. This can delay informing the others.

Or, they cold just be slack.

I got a job in the past (actually a teaching assistant job!) because their favourite candidate didn't turn up for the job! I had taken another part time job by then, and did both.
