Hmmm, YABU IMO. They are friends, not family, why should it stop you using the same name?

Although have never understood how people name a baby before it is born....we always had a shortlist and the name waited until we met the baby. Names need to suit the baby I feel.

Well I wouldn't change names because someone else had chosen it, and no reason why she shouldn't choose that name if she likes it.

But if you are not comfortable with the idea, and would prefer to change - that's your prerogative.

Stripycat23 · 08/03/2010 17:17

Would stick with your original choice. After all you would have if friend hadn't mentioned it.

A good friend of mine named her baby the same name as my then 1 year old. I had the instant "huh?" reaction. Then realised it doesn't really matter. People move houses/jobs/schools, you may lose touch etc. So they liked the name? Good choice IMO.

Whose baby is due first? Not that it really matters I suppose

Keep the name if you love it! Did she know that's what you are calling yours when she chose it?

Lonnie · 08/03/2010 19:01

no not unresonable I did the same thing and I know at least 4 other people that did

Casmama · 08/03/2010 19:06

If your baby isn't born yet then you can call it whatever you like. You never know you might have changed your mind when you saw him/her anyway.

No, YANBU. We've just started shortlisting names and I rule out any that my (close) friends' kids already have or names of people I didn't particularly like from school etc

Choosing a name is always going to be a difficult decision and if having a friend with a child of the same name puts you off the name you were thinking of, don't worry about it. There's thousands more to pick from!
