To think if you call someone who is in the middle of doing something they should tell you and ask you to call back later!?

Argh. Petty rant, but please indulge me.

I just called my friend about booking a holiday at Easter, she asked me to research and rig her today.
So I opened up all the bookmarks, wittered on for ages , assumed the long silences nd occasional oohs and aaahs were her being stunned at my holiday finding prowess but then she abruptly said

' Oh sorry I didn't catch any of that I'm just trying to finish this document. Will you ring me later'

Always makes me think 'Well don't answer the bloody phone then!'

As a matter of etiquette I'd say it's up to her to ring you back actually

swanandduck · 04/03/2010 12:31

So, she gets you to do all the research, doesn't bother to listen when you ring her with the results of your excellent research and then asks you to ring her back?
I think I'd go on holidays with someone else. You will probably have to carry her suitcases.

Flyonthewindscreen · 04/03/2010 12:34

YANBU, much ruder of your friend to make you trot though all your holiday research and then admit not listening than ask to phone back later.

bernadetteoflourdes · 04/03/2010 12:35

You just spoke to my sister! This is her phone style.

50ftQueenie · 04/03/2010 12:36

I totally agree but try telling my dad that. I was in the middle of frantically sorting things out in my house for guests coming to stay when he phoned (I add I tried to ignore but he phoned the home phone, my mobile, DH's mobile, the home phone again....) . I told him we were really busy and could we phone him back and he threw an almighty temper tantrum about it!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/03/2010 12:37

Haha I'm so annoyed with her!

But in a funny way - she is always like this.

Drives me mad.

You can guarantee whilst on holiday we'll be sitting talking about whereto go for dinner for ages, decide on a place, then 2 minutes later she'll say 'So we should start making dinner plans really'

Indulge me further-

It will be me, my DC (3&4) Best friend and her 2yo, my DC's godparents (no children) and two single friends

We are going for 4 nights. Given I have been promised babysitting on one of the nights I want to go somewhere I can do some good partying! but obviously it must be child friendly.

So our options are -

Dubrovnic in a Villa with private beach (though not as lush as it sounds)

Berlin in a city centre apartment

Barcelona - again very central apartment, and the advantage is I used to live there so have friends there/ know what's good

Marrakech - staying in an amazing old building

What would you do?

mumblechum · 04/03/2010 12:53

She shouldn't have picked up the phone if it wasn't convenient to talk.

Size0HereICome · 04/03/2010 12:54

Barcelona or Marrakech sounds good

Maybe I could come instead

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/03/2010 12:59

I do need a bit of beach - and warm weather. So maybe Berlin isn't such a good idea. I know my single friends are very keen on it though. (I'm single too, but, having 2 kids means not so into the crazy warehouse party scene hehe)

Barcelona might be best - but it's samey.

hmmm

I can't wait until next time my friend calls me I'm going to deliberately wind her up by doing the exact same back to me. teehee

Berlin or marrakech, def. Marrakech is great, really different...you'll love it.

notquitenormal · 04/03/2010 13:03

It could be worse. I've rung someone up in the past and we've been happilt chatting away before they said, 'Hang on a sec, I need to pull my trousers up.'

...pause...odd sounds...toilet flush!

WFT?

AlwaysHopeful · 04/03/2010 13:09

notquitenormal that's hilarious, but gross at the same time!

I have a friend who screens calls - listens to the message as you're leaving it and then might pick up if it sounds interesting enough. I don't call her anymore because it just annoys me. I text instead.

I'd have been furious....

Haven't been to any of those places, so can't advise on location, but Barcelona has been recommended to me.

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/03/2010 13:15

Marrakech! It's one of my favourite places. And the shopping is amazing...

Ooh am very jealous. I'd love to go back to Morocco.

diddl · 04/03/2010 13:17

Have you got any links OP?
I would think Dubrovnik & Marrakech sound better for the children.

Your friend sounds very rude.
Can you leave her behind-tell her she obviously wasn´t listening when you told her the details over the phone.
