My H's XP has named her child the same as our son

OMFG - my H has just told me that he got an email last night from his French XP saying that her newborn son has been named Lucien - our 15 month old son is named Lucian.

Given the plethora of names available to this highly educated woman, WTF is she doing nicking our name????? She did remark at the time what a nice name it was but this is ridiculous. This is an unusual name here a bit more common in France but in hardly common use.

I am so angry about this. I think I want to actually send her an email and say something (although thinking maybe not a good idea.......)

Obviously you two have the same taste, both married your dp!
Nothing you can do about it, so you may as well just take it as a compliment.

Do you own the name? No. So she can use whatever name she wants.

Get a grip.

titchy · 04/03/2010 09:01

2ndcoming - not wierd - now naming him Tiddles WOULD be wierd!

ImSoNotTelling · 04/03/2010 09:07

I wouldn't be able to get in a lather about this TBH.

I think I would be flattered if anything.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2010 09:08

'I really like John.'

Oh, I don't. It reminds me of my ex boyfriend. Actually, he's a Jonathan but just goes by Jon so I suppose I should clear my mental block about Johns.

But I don't wanna.

Lucian is not an unusual name here, but you're probably one of those people who thought it was all unique.

EndangeredSpecies · 04/03/2010 09:09

thesecondcoming - disagree. The ex clearly hasn't moved on has she? All my friends when naming their babies were rigorously crossing off their lists the names of exes, cousins and so on and so forth, partly to avoid unpleasant memories and partly to avoid confusion.

A name carries with it powerful associations. There's a reason the woman's done this, unless she has the mentality of a grand mouton and is unable to exercise independent thought.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2010 09:10

Or maybe she just thinks it's a nice name . . .

She probably ditched your husband because his wanger was too small.

SloanyPony · 04/03/2010 09:13

She stole your name, not your husband's sperm, so it could be worse. If she'd rifled round in your bathroom bin for used condoms just so she could have a little Lucian/en too then I'd say she was a psycho

StrictlyKatty · 04/03/2010 09:13

Maybe she just liked the name as was a little bit more grown up than the OP and thought she didn't really care that there was another child with the same name.

Imagine, an Ex in another country who didn't mind the same name as her Ex's child... what a weirdo It's hardly like they'll be at school together is it!

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 04/03/2010 09:13

YANBU this would really piss me of too - i think its weird that's she's done this.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 04/03/2010 09:17

It is a bit odd. Guess it depends too whether she was a long term partner, how much contact you have etc. Maybe also if she had given you a bit of warning, such as, 'Lucien is on our shortlist...' as obviously she doesn't need your permission to use it, but would have been diplomatic.

But then I was a bit creeped out when MIL's neighbor named her DD the same name as my DD after she heard it. Hope she doesn't nick DS name too, as that would be stalker mode!

Vivia · 04/03/2010 09:17

OP, did you really get in a strop over the Loo-shan/Lucy-en pronunciation? You giant poncy twat.

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/03/2010 09:17

And I was very nearly called Regan after the possessed child in The Exorcist.

Some people are daft when it comes to naming their children. Look at Demi Moore.

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/03/2010 09:17

ROFL you giant poncy twat.

Lol

Bucharest · 04/03/2010 09:17

Blue Nun?

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/03/2010 09:18

Dom Perignon?

Bonsoir · 04/03/2010 09:20

I completely understand the OP's POV. When I was choosing a name for DD, I paid huge attention to not choosing a name that was remotely similar to any name that had been used in that generation by any of my cousins (even quite remote cousins) or close friends.

BalloonSlayer · 04/03/2010 09:20

Chardonnay, of course, GetOrf

Does ex-shag count as close friend?

BalloonSlayer · 04/03/2010 09:25

Mateus or Rose (can't do accents)

EndangeredSpecies · 04/03/2010 09:25

Bonsoir, you're not allowed to completely understand the OP's point of view, I tried before but there are about 7 other people on this thread who would prefer to rip the piss out of the OP and talk about twats and wangers. Plus ca change!!

Have a nice day.
