to object to my DH 'gently' suggesting I'm having a pre mid life crisis?!

I probably know the answer to this ...but would welcome hearing it!

My fortieth birthday is next month and I'm not dreading it as I'm pretty happy with my life and where I'm at.

What I'm less happy with though is the way I look - not in a can't bear to look in the mirror way and bring on the plastic surgery but generally just feeling a bit of a bag lady most of the time. We moved to the outer sticks a couple of years ago and had another baby. I work from home and somewhere along the line I've just stopped bothering. Part of me enjoys sitting in my dressing gown at 12pm talking on the phone to clients but the other part of me misses the old me. If I'm honest, I miss feeling and being a good looking woman!

Anyway, with a trip to Italy and the fortieth birthday approaching, I've decided that its time for a rehaul, contact lenses, diet, new clothes etc. My DH and eldest daughter however are both amused and bemused. As far as the DH is concerned, if he fancies me in green wellies and his cardigan, why is this not enough? He also made this a huge joke at my expense over the weekend with friends. Ho bloody ho!!

I accept that its not likely I'm going to wear Prada again. I know that my skins bever going to look like my teenage daughters. But if I look in the mirror and see Nana Maskouri (most probable sic)what the hells wrong with trying to change that?!

Refer him to Charlotte Church who is only 23 or something crazily young. You are emerging from the JUST HAD TWO KIDS IN UNDER $ YEARS fog, which makes even the best of us and the youngest of us look quite bad.

I had my last child at 36. And for a couple of years i felt knackered and plump and I actually felt like my whole face had become more bland. I feel a lot better and younger NOW at nearly forty (snap) than I did on my 36 th birthday when I had a baby and a three year old.

Absolutely nothing, and trust me your husband will be your most turgid supporter, but that may lead to all sorts of other problems...

Mmm, yes, buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and then to really get your own back don't allow him to ride it...
