Car clampers

Cut a long story short:

Fail MOT. Cannot pay for it so cannot pay for tax either.

Do not drive it. Park it on the drive of my (council) house in North London.

Car clamped by private company employed by council, as the drive is not my property

Seen by neighbour, was some sneaky idiot in a hoodie clamping my car

Made to pay £100. Rude staff on phone (obviously).

AIBU to think this is unreasonable!!!

You rent the house from the council though don't you? Is the drive yours with sole access? If so, sounds like you need to take this further.

It sounds unreasonable on the basis that it was on your driveway. Surely the fact that the council own it isn't a factor - surely you dont have to be a home owner to be able to park an untaxed car on the drive!!! Ridiculous. If it was on the street, different story. Its not people like you they should be targeting - its people who try not to tax.

It'd be okay if the unclampted it for free when you paid the tax - to ensure you dont drive it - but there should be no charge but that of the tax (and MOT to get the tax, done separately)
