to think a youtube video of my kids in the bath is not "inappropriate content"?

Have namechanged for this...

I have several videos on youtube, including one of DD1 (2.4) and DD2 (6 months) in the bath. Youtube have removed it - only explanation given is: "Rejected (content inappropriate)"

As fasr as I can see, youtube guidelines only ban porn, not nudity, and it says videos are not taken down automatically by the system, but only after being reviewed by youtube after being flagged by a user.

AIBU to be and that innocent childhood nudity is considered "inappropriate" and censored in this way?

why would you want to put that on you tube???

ChristinePrattsDog · 22/02/2010 10:55

and when you think what IS on youtube

southeastastra · 22/02/2010 10:57

i found a dog fight on youtube (while searching for my town), there were kids toys in the garden and they still kept it on!

nickytwotimes · 22/02/2010 10:58

I wouldn't want my kid naked on the internet for anyone to view, no.

WHat would your reaction be if the images were used for dodgy purposes? Would you hold Youtube responsible in any way?

Sad that it is the way of things now, but it is.

ChairmumMiaow · 22/02/2010 10:58

We have a video of DS in the bath on youtube. Very odd!

GypsyMoth · 22/02/2010 11:00

someone flagged it....so youtube have to act

Nancy10 · 22/02/2010 11:00

YABU!!! Why on earth would you want to put pictures of your children in the bath on You tube for the world to see. It may well be an innocent video of your children and I'm sure plenty of good, innocent people may watch it. But what about PAEDOPHILES!!!!!!!!!! Are you happy for them to watch it??????????? Good for you tube!

dontcensormykids · 22/02/2010 11:01

I uploaded it for my friends and family to view but am not bothered if anyone else looks at it. I don't think paedos would be terribly excited by it - it's hardly hardcore. And no, of course I wouldn't hold youtube responsible if the images were used for dodgy purposes (whatever they might be).

YouTube is full of such nasty trashy stuff. Why would you want a video of your children on there for absolutely anyone to see?

Of course there is nothing wrong with taking videos of your children in the bath/nude etc for you and your family/friends to view, but there are better ways share them imo. Websites like Flickr have password protection so only people that you decide can view your pictures and videos.

dontcensormykids · 22/02/2010 11:04

sorry what do you mean by "nasty trashy stuff" - not sure what you're referring to?

nickytwotimes · 22/02/2010 11:05

You might not, don'tcensor, but there are plenty who would.

If you want your friends and family to see it, send it to them via email or put it on facebook with relevant restrictions.

I have to say that if I was a kid now and my Mum put up pictures of me for anyone to look at, I'd be pissed off when I was a bit older. Not the hysterical peado stuff, just a privacy thing.

frogetyfrog · 22/02/2010 11:06

Imo it seems very odd that people put photos of their children on YouTube. As brooco says there are better ways of sharing photos.

DonttellDH · 22/02/2010 11:06

It is inappropriate. Your intentions were innocent, however that cannot be said for some other people who access the internet. They removed it to protect your children from being abused.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2010 11:07

I can not for the life of me imagine why you would put videos of your children naked in the bath on Youtube.

Andi2 · 22/02/2010 11:09

if its for friends & family to see you have the option to make it private and add people to a list and only those people can see it.

BigBadMummy · 22/02/2010 11:11

Do you want pervets looking at your kids in the bath?

You have no idea who is viewing that video.....

And "paedos" as you put it don't just "get excited" over sexually explicit photos or videos. Level one child pornography are pictures that are "non-posed" and typically children in swimming costumes.

This type of thing is EXACTLY that.

My kids would hate that if it was me with them!

Youtube has filtering programming running that pick up flesh tones in videos. Anything with a lot of flesh could be porn so it is flagged and ultimately removed. This may have all been done by computer and not by a human being.

Remember the fuss made over Julia Somerville taking photos of her own kids on a rug? Nothing has changed since then but this is a very emotive subject.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 22/02/2010 11:15

sorry im all for childhood innocence but you are taking that innocence away by letting the whole world see them naked god knows what kind of pervs could have watched it

dontcensormykids · 22/02/2010 11:15

I'm genuinely interested by the feedback here. I completely understand why most of you would not want to put pictures of your own children on youtube, but do you really think youtube should remove videos of children playing in the bath?

As far as I can see it's not against their terms of use - unless you consider it comes under "pornography or sexually explicit content"

Get yourself something like a Flickr account (there are others, snapfish photobox, etc.)

I have one that I share my mindees photos and videos with there families, only people I invite can see the content.

EcoMouse · 22/02/2010 11:16

I don't understand the mindset of not being protective of DC's privacy, inclusive of photo's and vid's.

Do you feel that if your children don't know it wont hurt them?

dontcensormykids · 22/02/2010 11:17

bigbadmummy, it specifically says that videos are not automatically removed by the system - they are reviewed first by youtube.

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 22/02/2010 11:17

I think they should remove it, yes, as they could be hald accountable should something happen.

They are protecting themsleves as much as anything.

GypsyMoth · 22/02/2010 11:18

hmmmm.....something about this doesnt ring true....

EcoMouse · 22/02/2010 11:18

Yes, I think YT are right to take steps to protect the privacy of children.

dontcensormykids · 22/02/2010 11:22

I promise it's genuine. I expected more of a split in views on this, so I'm interested that there is a resounding YABU
