Muslin square tied to cuddly toy

My DD, age 3, has a cuddly dog that she likes to take to bed with her along with a muslin square. She has started asking us to put the muslin square through this dog's T-shirt and tie it on so it's almost like a lead and she can pull her dog along.

My DH has decided that it's dangerous for her to take the dog to bed with this muslin square tied on. He thinks that she might get the muslin square wrapped around her and not be able to pull it free because the other end is tied to her dog. It's causing no end of tears at bed time and I can't really see that it is that bad. I'm tempted to just let her take it to bed, but he's insisting we un-tie it.

Is he being unreasonable or could it be dangerous?

Can you knot it a few times to shorten it down to a less risky length of fabric?

It sounds fine to me - both of mine have had muslins in bed from very early although not tied to anything.

When my husband was at school a boy accidentally strangled himself (not actually at school, but ykwim) and it has left him v aware of strangulation type things. So even my ultra cautious DH would be ok with this, therefore its fine. (scientific aren't I)

I think he's being slightly hysterical. Anything can be dangerous if you think about it for long enough.

...or just untie it at bedtime if you're both happy with her sleeping with it loose? Dogs don't need leads at bedtime

if he is that worried, can you not let her in to sleep with it, then untie it after she has fallen asleep. In the morning just tell her the dog escaped in the night?

I like the dogs don't need leads at bedtime idea, I think I'll try that one and see if she goes for it.

She gets really stressy about things sometimes and I think we'd have even more tears if we untied it during the night!

My niece sleeps with a variety of muslins on the bed...one spread on pillow, one to suck blah blah. She's 7 now but has done this since day one!

My youngest son is 8, 9 in september he has a toy raccon and muslin that he takes everywhere to bed.
