to think dh is, infact, a fussy eater?

DH and the dcs have been away for a few days at the ILs (fanfare, trumpets, balloons etc, although lovely to have them back of course) and so for two days I have been eating things dh does not like. Whilst he maintains that he is not a fussy eater, and very grateful for all I cook for him, I think he is, actually, really rather fussy given the list of foods he will not eat:

All fish, including all shellfish.

Aubergines

Blue cheese

Pork chops

Lamb in any shape or form

Chicken that is not breast

I think that makes him quite fussy.

Otoh, the only foods I cannot eat are cucumber, oysters and natural yogurt. So am very easy to accommodate, yes?

ah ok. Brassica family. Allergic to all thigns brassican. Who'd've thought it.

displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 22:56

lol wastwinset

That is one fussy eater!

My dh hates baked beans and Marmite - a staple in our house with me and 3 DCs loving both! When he is away with work we gorge ourselves on beans and marmite and chuckle that he will come home and recoil at the sight of our smudgey marmite faces. heh heh

All meet has to be cooked to a crisp as well.

edam · 18/02/2010 22:57

yeah, it was a new one on me! Had known the guy for quite a while too, but had never cooked for him before.

shine - I know someone who can't eat a sandwich unless she makes it herself....you're not also rather fond of flowers, are you?

wastwinsetandpearls · 18/02/2010 23:01

I have remembered more things he hates:
Will only eat chicken breast
gravy has to be plain bisto
custard has to be from a tin
fish has to be cod or haddock in batter
No alcohol either
Doesn't like fresh coffee
No ketchup, mayonaise, mustard or any sauce.
No salad

Shineon you sound almost as bad as dp.

Going out for a meal is quite stressful.
He is a hygeine obsessive as well and will not eat anything that dd makes.

It almost split us up in our early days as I am a foodie.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/02/2010 23:01

Shiney - how come you are still standing lovey?

wastwinsetandpearls · 18/02/2010 23:03

It was almost five years before dp ate a sandwich I made him. It was a similar length of time before he ate a cake that I made and I am a fantastic cook. He often sniffs and prods anything I make him/

displayuntilbestbefore · 18/02/2010 23:05

So for those of you who won't eat a sandwich unless it's made by yourselves - what is it that you think someone else is going to do to the sandwich that will make it inedible? Is it the idea of them spreading the bread and cutting it up,the fact it has to be touched by their hands?
wastwinset - has your dp told you why he didn't eat things you made? I would be mighty offended if DH prodded and sniffed anything I had made him!

I used to take great offence and there have been tears shed. He won't admit to prodding things I make or being reluctant to eat my cooking. But he does.

I have now accepted it is about him and not me. I rarely cook for him now and we even do separate food shops.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 18/02/2010 23:12

only read OP

aside from the chicken thing, I don't eat the same things as your DH. I am far from a fussy eater. I eat most things, and I will eat some fish if disguised in thai fish cakes, but can't stomach shellfish at all (never tasted it, never want to!)

In fairness, nothing that the OP's DH won't eat is absolutely essential nosh. I know we've grown up to believe that civilised society is fatally threatened if we can't buy olives, organic aubergines and cheese that smells like a rotting cadaver (wearing unwashed socks), but the truth is a lot less interesting. Not eating any fish is a tad restrictive but the no, he isn't the most pernickety of eaters.

Spoken as someone who still recalls the pointlessness of trying to feed the fiance of a friend of ours who announced - as the first course was served - that he was a vegetarian who didn't much like vegetables and also wouldn't eat anything green or red.

Treeesa · 19/02/2010 02:50

I can't stand rice pudding because the texture makes me want to heave but love porridge.. Can you work that one out..!

I also don't like the smell of any fishy fish like plaice, sole etc.. hate it.. yet I love the taste of kippers and I can put up with the smell..
