farting in front of DH?

MrsSawdust · 17/02/2010 20:35

We have been together for 18 years, married for 14 years and have a 1 yr old DD.

My DH is becoming increasingly upset about me letting off wind when he is anywhere in the vicinity. I'm pretty certain this never used to bother him - or at least he didn't tell me if it did.

The thing is, he thinks it's ok for him to fart in front of me anytime he feels like it. He's quite adamant that 'the rest of society' thinks it's ok for a man to fart in front of a woman but not ok for a woman to fart in front of her man. He's so certain of this fact, he actually ASKED me to post this on MN to prove me wrong.

I've told him to get over it.

AIBU? I'm genuinely starting to doubt myself here.

How foul.

Mumcentreplus · 02/11/2010 21:35

Weeell..My Dh is way more windy ..but he does apologise in my presence...I rarely fart to be heard and if i do... the look of Shock is very amusing Grin

I apologise also..mainly because you never know what the after effects might be crossed with good manners.Wink

God I hate it from ANYBODY! I dont want to smell the contents of someone elses bowel! Man or woman. Got to the loo and do it...and if you do it so often that this would disrupt your life...well then go to the doctor.

Rosettaroo · 02/11/2010 21:45

My ex used to dutch oven me all the time. DH and I have an unspoken pact of freely farting but saying excuse me.

PersonalClown · 02/11/2010 22:22

Can we please put this in classics??

I've just sat here for at least half hour and I hurt from laughing!!
Perfect antidote for the blues!Grin

TiggyD · 02/11/2010 22:35

Don't call them farts. Call them love puffs.

PersonalClown · 02/11/2010 22:41

Oh don't say that Tiggy..Dp calls them that while singing to the tune of the Love Boat!!

tyler80 · 02/11/2010 22:47

Seeing as average is 14 times a day I don't think anyone who finds going to the loo everytime disruptive needs to see a doctor.

SecretNutellaFix · 02/11/2010 22:49

thank you for resurrecting this thread!Grin

A couple of weeks ago, I was standing next to a colleague as she was serving a customer whose baby can't have been more than 7 weeks old. Quiet moment and all we hear is this resonant trumpeting from the pram! We just looked at each other, bit our lips (as did Mum) and finally all 3 of us began giggling hysterically. Even for the rest of the day, all my colleague and I had to do was meet glances and we'd start sniggering again.

It was loud! And he slept through it!

ForMashGetSmash · 02/11/2010 22:52

tyler...are you a researcher of love-puffs?

tyler80 · 02/11/2010 22:55

Nope, just a concerned citizen worried that doctors are going to get inundated with women worried that they fart too much Grin

Timeforanap · 02/11/2010 23:07

I always apologise if it's smelly, and moan/suggest a visit to the loo if DH or DC do smelly ones. But both of us are pretty relaxed really.

DH have been together 16 years. We went camping after we'd been going out for about a year and the subject of lighting farts came up. I didn't know it was actually possible, he said it was and tried to teach me (on my request). Couldn't do it, so he lit one of mine for me. Fact. But then he wouldn't play anymore and admitted he didn't think it was a very "ladylike" game to play with one's girlfriend. We got engaged four months later though, so it can't have put him off too badly.

TiggyD · 03/11/2010 18:07

A researcher of love puffs would be called a puffologist.

onceamai · 03/11/2010 19:43

Trumpets Blush. You need to do them lying beside him, pull the covers up quick and hold him down.

DS had a teacher once who claimed he could fart the alphabet. Galloping trumps, that's rare, my identity could be out any minute. Wink
