farting in front of DH?

MrsSawdust · 17/02/2010 20:35

We have been together for 18 years, married for 14 years and have a 1 yr old DD.

My DH is becoming increasingly upset about me letting off wind when he is anywhere in the vicinity. I'm pretty certain this never used to bother him - or at least he didn't tell me if it did.

The thing is, he thinks it's ok for him to fart in front of me anytime he feels like it. He's quite adamant that 'the rest of society' thinks it's ok for a man to fart in front of a woman but not ok for a woman to fart in front of her man. He's so certain of this fact, he actually ASKED me to post this on MN to prove me wrong.

I've told him to get over it.

AIBU? I'm genuinely starting to doubt myself here.

a friend of mine was helping out in reception class at the dc's school last year. they were doing a project for mothers day, drawing pictures of things a mum does. one little boy was a bit puzzled looking so was asked by the teacher what he could think of that his mum did. 'she trumps a lot' was his reply. my friend wouldn't tell me who the boy was but she said the mum is not someone you would think goes round trumping all the time.

mankyscotslass · 17/02/2010 21:01

Tether, that's what I have always been told too

ByTheSea · 17/02/2010 21:01

I've just farted 3 times while reading this post to DH. As he's laughing, he clearly disagrees with your DH.

AnyFucker · 17/02/2010 21:03

it's a good job my DH isn't bothered by this

I have been known to make all sorts of noises during cunnilingus, we larf, we carry on

shiney...that one was for you, lovey

twotimes · 17/02/2010 21:03

ahahahahhhhhhahahaaaaaaaaaahahah YANBU ahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa

teaandcakeplease · 17/02/2010 21:04

I am crying with laughter. This is hilarious!

Tell your hubby to not be daft, why is it ok for him and not you? It's a fact of life, we're all human.

I suppose if it's really awful maybe adjust your diet or something to be kind, but I suspect you fart no more than him. So he's being very very daft!

mankyscotslass · 17/02/2010 21:04

AF, fanny farts are a whole other thread!

lottiebunny · 17/02/2010 21:05

YANBU. Even though DP finds my arse output to be vomit inducing on occasion (I have IBS) and begs me to stop the torture, he would never actually make leave the room to fart.

tethersend · 17/02/2010 21:07

How can you live without Dutch ovens???

I think it is polite to avoid farting in front of loved ones, out of basic consideration - IF POSSIBLE.

It is not always avoidable.

The cheery look on the face of my 14 month old DD when she tears a bunch off makes me laugh, but I'd rather DP didn't do the same as I wouldn't find it amusing or endearing But double standards as in the OP - that's just not fair. One rule for all [adults]!

NeedCoffee · 17/02/2010 21:09

Ask him to leave the room if it bothers him

OH really doesn't like me doing it in front of him, I don't care, he does it.

diddl · 17/02/2010 21:10

Well, we don´t make a habit of deliberately farting in front of each other, but neither would we feel it necessary to leave the room unless we thought it was going to be particularly offensive/explosive.

AnyFucker · 17/02/2010 21:10

who said anything about fanny farts ??

Oh yes, talking of leaving the room to fart, I did concede a few weeks ago that I would leave the kitchen if I needed to drop one as he found me farting in the kitchen particularly disgusting (because it's around food I think).

So I have been dutifully scuttling off into the lounge. But it's still not good enough because he can still hear it. This is the scenario that brought on the discussion this evening.

i find all farts hilarious! in fact they play such a big part in our family life(including the animals) we were temted to call our house 'The FARTINGS'!

I am laughing so much i have lost count how many i have dropped! .

mankyscotslass · 17/02/2010 21:13

AF, your reputation preceeds you!

As for op, my dh genuinely seems bemused and green with envy over the range and scale of my farts. Or could something else be causing his green around the gills look?

Trikken · 17/02/2010 21:14

Fart away I say. Farting in front of your dh is fine, if it was the in-laws you were trumping in front of that would be not so good but perfectly adequate to fart in front of your dh. my dh is so funny when he does it, he has to left a leg when he does it and pulls a 'fart' face. he did in when we were waiting for the lift in a shop on monday, it was so loud and wet sounding i thought he'd have to shake summin out his trouser leg. and there were shop workers behind us who looked shocked. we laughed soo hard.

AnyFucker · 17/02/2010 21:15

even though I am a fan of the farting, I find the phrase "dropping one" very vulgar

it makes me think of the time I followed through and left a trail on the kitchen floor....
