Was in Boots printing pictures and a man walkes up to the counter - lady behind counter asks man if she can help he replys with "yes I need something to shut the baby up"

I was horrified
The lady behind the counter fair play in my opinion said "WE don't sell anything like that here!!!"

As it happend the baby in question was teathing.

My thought was don't hve children if you are not prepared for them to be wingy at times.

I've been known, when my husband asks 'Does the baby need changing?' to reply 'Yes. Did we keep the receipt?'.

But then I'm an awful mother, clearly.

And what sort of Boots doesn't sell baby-quietening devices? Isn't that what Boots is for?

I heard a mum say today:

"If you don't eat your dinner up that lady serving us (meaning me) will throw you on the fire"

at "did we keep the reciept?"

overthehill - quite prepared for anyone to have an opinion on parenting but (as per my earlier comment) surely you accept that passing judgement in a situation like this when you haven't experienced it in reality is a bit naive?

I don;t think stories of how how you can sink when you are in this position are out of order. I don;t think the OP accepts either that it's different when you are emotionally invested in the child as opposed to being a childcare professional/teacher).

I think had you really taken any of this on board no doubt poeple would have stopped by now, but she doesn't. Think thinks its just a different opinion.

IMVHO it's not a difference of opinion its a difference of experience.

I am with you kewcumber.

He wasn't treating a child badly though was he? (we have no indication of that), all we know was that he made a snarky comment to a pharmacist that the OP in her wisdom as someone who has never wanted to scream at her baby to SHUT UP, PLEASE JUST SHUT UP and have to put them down and close the door and go away so you don't do something awful thought was a bit off.

As Kewcumber says this isn't a difference in opinion, besides it is helpful to share these stories - makes me feel better about some of the stuff I felt, because it means I wasn't an evil/mean/terrible mother, just someone who was sleep deprived and at the end of her rope, like all the other mums.

Besides there are five exclamation marks in the title, anyone that out of control clearly needs telling.
