In The Night Garden.... The Mucky Patch

AIBU to feel that the 'mucky patch' is actually a kind of dirty protest of mine that has been somehow projected into this narrative by the force of my own boredom having to read these books endlessly to dd who is addicted to ITNG like it's some kind of baby Crack?

I mean surely I have somehow dirtied that godforsaken Ninky Nonk, the mucky patches come from nowhere. Unlike Iggle Piggle's falling when dancing and then contamination of Upsy Daisy Daisy covered in Poo.

Not unreasonable but prozac will help!

nigelslaterfan · 12/02/2010 20:39

I can't believe that so few people hate this mucky patch narrative!
I really dislike it.
I like the Pontipine narratives.

I HATE those bloody ITNG books!

Isnt that a fucking pip?

WingedVictory · 12/02/2010 21:52

Does anyone else think the Pinky Ponk looks like a breast?

EssenceOfJack · 12/02/2010 21:57

All I know is that I am so glad DD';s don't watch ITNG anymore after I snapped lost the DVD.

Now all I have to worry about is why the SS in america aren't watching dora's parents for letting ehr travel around getting in danger all the time with just a fairly inept monkey to look afetr her.

ginghamgiraffe · 12/02/2010 21:58

What is this mucky patch of which you speak?
I am only allowed to watch freaky Haa Hoo episodes
and the one with the pissing tiddle.

I had a good laugh at that, StayFrosty, although the washing mania is quite ineffective. I remember another poster once complaining that HE NEVER WASHED HIS SPONGE. Ugh.

ginghamgiraffe · 12/02/2010 22:10

oh yes
and the same sponge for cleaning ninky nonk and people's faces
EW

WingedVictory · 12/02/2010 22:17

I try not to look at it (the sponge). After all, my slatternly behaviour does seem to consist of not looking at nasty things until I can do something about them!

nigelslaterfan · 12/02/2010 22:25

"Igglepiggle falls down and gets a muddy patch on his tummy. He gets the mud on his hand, on his blanket and on Upsy Daisy. Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy go riding in the Ninky Nonk and spread mucky patches over that too. Finally they meet Makka Pakka, who washes them clean. Everybody joins in the dance at the gazebo."

oh the highs and lows of the mucky patch.

what is the pissing tiddle? I don't know that episode.

dd used to love loads of books and had an open mind about new books. Now she is an ITNG Fascist and only wants ITNG books. She was given a whole ton of them from some of mil's bookclubs..... So my reading scope is limited to this narrow furrow and it's driving me mad enough to cover myself with mucky patches.

If you want mucky, nigelslater, how about the Little Mole Who Knew It was None of His Business, about a little mole who has a poo dropped on his head, and goes round the animals, accusing them of doing it.

To prove that they are innocent, the other animals (and bird) show the mole how they do it. Eventually, he meets the shit-sperts, two flies, and they tell him it was the dog. There is a very nice punch-line, and I recommend the book as a subversive parent's delight!

Poledra · 12/02/2010 22:41

DD2 is an avid ITNG fan (though is growing out of it at 4yo) and she hates the Mucky Patches episode. It made her cry when she was smaller. Recently, she was helping me cook dinner while CBeebies was on the telly. Out of nowhere, she looked up from the pot she was helping to stir and said 'Oh no, Mummy, not Mucky Patches! I don't like Mucky Patches.' I swear, it had been on for about 15 seconds and I didn't even think she was watching it. I have no idea how she knew it was that episode.

We do enjoy The Little Mole Who Knew it was None of his Business though and Who's in the Loo? is another fav.

WingedVictory · 12/02/2010 22:51

Thanks for the new recommendation, Poledra

Paulinespens · 12/02/2010 23:08

I've had over 3 years now of the bastard ITNG. Just as my eldest grew out of it the youngest became a fan. To be fair, it always guarantees a cease to the whinging.
Is it just me not paying attention but is every episode the same?
It's slightly less annoying than the creepy Waybaloo.

chandellina · 13/02/2010 00:20

is the mucky patch when they are underground in the roots? i only caught the tail end of tomblieboos in some dirt patch the other day.
i am despairing over ITNG, after making it the one program DS can watch, but now finding that i can't sleep because the bloody songs run through my mind endlessly. And i am really fed up with oopsy daisy and her shameless self promotion.
