In thinking I should leave home tonight? (warning - this won't be what you may think)

Sorry for the misleading title - it's just this is the busiest part of MN and we'll need to make a decision soon so I'm hoping to reach the right advice quickly.

We're booked on Eurotunnel at 1145 tomorrow (bless our Tesco Deals!) and live about 4 hours drive away.

We'd been planning to leave here at about 6am tomorrow, but are worried about the snow situation.

I'm wondering if we'd be better off leaving home tonight (not just me!) and staying in a hotel?

Anyone in Kent who could advise please? Is it still snowing, and what are the roads like?

Many tia and sorry if you're annoyed at opening this to find it's not what you thought.

Are you sure Eurotunnel is running? I phoned them today to make a booking for later in the year and couldn't, but on the recording it said that trains were cancelled today.

If you can get a hotel that would be good, but what happens if you can't travel tomorrow?

Personally I'd rather leave now (if you're ready) and stay in a hotel tonight, and have a nice leisurely start to the holiday.

you need to go to chat and look for ohyoubadkitten and her weather reports.

have a nice time

Thanks - the info line says Eurotunnel is planning to run tomorrw, they're working on clearing the snow.

People booked in today won't be guaranteed travel tomorrow unless they rebook - so we'd be unlikely to go earlier than our booked time.

We would book into a hotel. I think that's probably the best option - will tell dh when he gets back in soon!

Definately go with the hotel idea. Wouldn't trust weather reports and the snow can get pretty heavy pretty quickly down there. Know from experience having been stuck in the snow in kent last feb.

Well if it helps we are just off M20 about 30 minutes from the Tunnel and roads this far are fine.

So you will get this far by road without any trouble, would have thought motorways would be fine by tomorrow morning as far as the Tunnel. No more snow predicted - just ice overnight.....

Check bbc.co.uk/kent for road updates.

Enjoy your trip.

I gather 'operation-stack' is in progress, which means the lorries etc are queuing for when the tunnel gets up and running again.

hi I am in Kent snow is pretty deep but main roads are not too bad. Schools have all been closed and buses not running though. We havent had any new snow since lunchtime.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/02/2010 19:16

We have a few bits of snow but more is expected tonight. (Near M20/M2)

helenium · 11/02/2010 19:26

channel tunnel is running

lateylate · 11/02/2010 19:27

I think I'm coming down on the side of getting in the car tonight and going as far as we can then finding a hotel - less stress in the morning and a better start to our holiday,

Trouble is, we're not ready yet - so it's going to be a late drive.
