To think taking in a new dog when your existing dog is ignored is a very bad idea

Of course I am nbu but I'm so cross.

My parents have a king charles spaniel , he is 13, has throat trouble, cataracts and is all round lazy.

My mums uncle has just passed away and his 10 year old border collie was looking most likely to go into a shelter.

All of the family are so happy he's staying in the family....but she's the most gorgeous dog she could easily have been rehomed.

Not only will the new arrival upset their dog but they never ever take them for walks, and this is a very lively jumpy dog.

I know their hearts are what's made them decide this but realistically, I'm not sure it's good.

No, realistically it's not the most sensible thing, but obviously they need this dog to stay in the family right now.

It'll be them feeling that it is something they can do for their loved one.

Is there anyone else within the family who could have the dog? You perhaps?

A collie that is never walked is a recipe for disaster. She will end up trashing their house. Tell them to be a bit responsible and give her to someone who will look after her properly if they're not prepared too.

I think they are very kind and caring to take the collie on.At least he will hve a loving home and be company for the spaniel. It may prompt them to get their walking boots on.I hope it all turns out good,I am sure it will.

Collies are one breed that need walking and need stimulation every single day- they are very clever and very energetic! I think your parents will realise quite soon whether they are up to it. i hope the other dog isn't too put out
