to not change the sheets

My MIL is coming to stay tonight and has already advised me that she is bringing a sheet and pillowcases so that I won't have to change the duvet after she leaves! I assured her it was no problem, but now that I think about it, the last person to stay was SIL (her daughter) and SIL will be staying again in a week.

Since I wouldn't mind sleeping on my mother's sheets and vice versa, AIBU to leave them in place?

Or should I just get her bloody son to take care of things and change the sheets twice? ;)

Nevermind that I would be more annoyed my MIL thought she would need to bring her sheets and pillowcases

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2010 12:22

Perhaps the reason MIL is bringing her own sheets and pillowcase is directly linked to the OP's reluctance in changing sheets.

Change the bedding OP. It takes 5 minutes fgs.

Well I was going to point out I would have changed the bedclothes as soon as SIL left so the bed was freshly made for any other visitors

onlyjoinedforoffers · 10/02/2010 12:33

i couldnt let a guest sleep in anything but clean sheets change them bit strange her bringing her own though

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2010 12:33

Reality - two words. Poo crumbs.

My mum brings clean sheets to save me the washing. I used to remonstrate with her, but now accept that it's just her way of trying to make my life easier.

Sassybeast · 10/02/2010 12:38

I think the answer is in the fact that your MIL feels the need to bring her 'own' sheets and pillow case. Some more words - sloughed off skin cells, leaky lady bits, sweaty armpits, errant pubic hair

victoriascrumptious · 10/02/2010 12:39

Poo crumbs? Ewwwww! Seriously though have you not changed the sheets before when she has come to stay? Maybe she's making a point

Quintessential12belowZero · 10/02/2010 12:41

Ewww at not changing the sheets after SIL left.....

But, it seems to be De Rigeur here to bring your own sheets when you go visiting. Even when renting a cottage, it says to bring your own sheets, or you will be charged a linen fee of £20 per bed......

Maybe you could make a notice on your guest room door.

"Kindly Note: Due to large number of guests, we are introducing the Norwegian tradition of Linen Fees for guests, and will charge £20 per bed per stay, unless you provide your own linen."

Even just for FUN, such a notice would be worth putting up. DH made a NO farting sign for our sons room....

chandellina · 10/02/2010 12:45

SIL stayed for one night, on Friday. Forgive me for not having changed the sheets yet. She is staying again next weekend and I assumed no one would be there in between. Is that skanky not to change sheets for the same person, after one night's use??

Anyway, it's been a constant stream of people in and out of the room, usually SIL and MIL though.

I laughed when MIL said she'd bring a sheet tonight, but I think she feels bad that I've been stripping the bed a couple of times a week for the past few months.

I suppose you lot expect me to be ironing sheets too.

OP posts:
CirrhosisByTheSea · 10/02/2010 12:49

ironing sheets - no

changing them after each person - yes

(but agree it sounds like your DHs turn to do the changing!)

chandellina · 10/02/2010 12:52

for the record, I have always changed the sheets for guests, I just thought this latest offer presented an interesting dilemma.

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 10/02/2010 13:02

Feck maybe thats why my ironing basket is always full, I iron everything, except underwear

Morloth · 10/02/2010 13:05

Fresh sheets for each guest. Yuck.

Gubbins · 10/02/2010 13:06

I'd put clean sheets on the bed for MiL, but wouldn't bother washing the ones I'd stripped off and would put them back on for SiL as soon as MiL had left.

Well, to be honest, if it had been my own M and Sil I probably wouldn't bother changing the sheets at all. They used to often share beds in hotels, so would obviously be fine with shared sheets. Far more environmentally friendly anyway.

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2010 13:08

I'm definitely on the side of fresh sheets for each guest usually, but is it that horrible to sleep in sheets that another member of your family has slept in? In this case, I'm not sure

BettyTurnip · 10/02/2010 13:09

Take heed of Gubbins - hardly good for the environment to wash bedding after one night's use.

OP - you are not a slattern at all!

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2010 13:10

Now I couldn't put dirty sheets back on the bed

BettyTurnip · 10/02/2010 13:14

Unless the SIL has a particularly crumby bottom, or only washes her hair once a month, the sheets are hardly likely to be dirty are they?

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2010 13:14

Now don't go on about the environment as a reason to not change your sheets.

No I wouldn't out used sheets back on the bed even if they were for the same person. I would just shove them in the wash tbh.

But I don't iron sheets, that way madness lies.

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2010 13:17

if i ironed sheets they'd be dragging on the kitchen floor & getting dirty again
