To tell this 'friend' off for being, well, just disgusting?

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 11:57

I suppose this is more of a 'what would you do'?

I find one of my facebook 'friends' depressing. Everything she says is a cliché or at the very least the kitsch-est expression she can find. Everything's a drama. Everyone's against her. She posts jokes as her status that I find annoying ("Woman answers phone and pervert on the other end sez "have u got a big fat sweaty hairy cnt". Woman sez ," yeah he's laid on the fckin sofa, do u want him!")

Today, she posted this as her status: "15 year old paki next door has asked me for a water fight so I thought I'd txt u while I boiled the kettle". Nice. Really nice.

So I have a choice between a)de-friending her quickly and quietly b)replying to her status expressing my disgust and then de-friending her or c)posting something derogatory on my status and then de-friending her.

Or am I being unreasonable?

I should say that I went to school with this woman. I do remember her (vaguely) but we've never been friends and I haven't seen her in 15 years. Not even sure when I accepted the friends request.

why is she on your friends list?

I'd say "I do not become friends with racists. Goodbye" and defriend her - no point lowering yourself to her standards

malovitt · 10/02/2010 11:59

b, no question. Revolting.

LittleOneMum · 10/02/2010 12:00

Just defriend her quietly. Life is too short. Think of your blood pressure.

PS She sounds like an arse.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/02/2010 12:00

I don't think I'd want to be friends with someone like that TBH. I don't do facebook so don't know how difficult it is to defriend someone but, can you report her for racism. That really is quite a foul thing to write.

ReneRusso · 10/02/2010 12:00

She sounds horrible. Definitely option b)

MadameCastafiore · 10/02/2010 12:01

Are you a grown up or do you have some sort of problem yourself that you cannot cope with relationships face to face and have to resort to, like some needy teen, that bloody facebook thing which you can actually ignore/switch off and don;t ahve to do anything.

LowLevelWhingeing · 10/02/2010 12:01

B.

3cutedarlings · 10/02/2010 12:02

Just delete her! problem solved!! sounds vile imo

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/02/2010 12:03

Yet another reason not to venture near Facebook

slightlystressed · 10/02/2010 12:03

option b)

MrsSawdust · 10/02/2010 12:04

B

Wanderingsheep · 10/02/2010 12:04

Option B!

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2010 12:04

MadameCastoafore

That should be the MN stock response to dozy arsed Facebook threads.

Facebook is for 14 year olds.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/02/2010 12:05

Oh god I can spell everyone, honestly.

TrillianAstra · 10/02/2010 12:07

b

If you write on your status you'll look like a 15-yr old announcing 'you're not my friend anymore' to everyone who can see.

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 12:08

"Are you a grown up or do you have some sort of problem yourself that you cannot cope with relationships face to face and have to resort to, like some needy teen, that bloody facebook thing which you can actually ignore/switch off and don;t ahve to do anything."

Give over! Grown-ups are allowed to use t'interweb tha knows. You're here aren't you? I wonder how many people would think a forum is for those who 'cannot cope with relationships face to face'.

I'm very aware I can 'turn it off' , which is exactly what I'm going to do. There's no need for such a sad attack on my maturity!

YANBU.

B.

ShowOfHands · 10/02/2010 12:10

Just defriend her.

And FB is actually a very useful utility. It doesn't have to be silly status updates, ridiculous applications and joining groups.

I have friends all over the world and a lot of family scattered across different timezones. I email them and I try and catch them on skype but sharing photos is so much easier on fb. Plus, BIL has been travelling the world for 5 yrs, has a blog on there so we can keep up with him, posts regular photographs so we can all see what he's up to. He does email regularly too but undoubtedly fb makes things much, much easier. I don't think I'm 'friends' with anybody under the age of 27 on there.

Criticising FB in its entirety smacks of 'we're so much better than yaw' (channelling Harry Enfield)

googietheegg · 10/02/2010 12:10

DON'T DO B!!!!! it mean mean everyone that is friends with you will see her status BEFORE they see your comment so if they don't bother to read your comment it may look like you are just writing lol or something.

Just defriend her without saying anything

googietheegg · 10/02/2010 12:13

by 'it mean mean' I actually meant 'it will mean'

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/02/2010 12:14

ShowofHands Fair point. I don't have that many friends in RL, let alone in different timezones, though, so it's utility is limited for me

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 12:16

OMG googie, I never thought of that and have just done B. Bugger.

And I agree with SOH, I don't have many contacts and most are overseas, so it's a great way to keep in touch. This woman was just a random school person and I have now got rid.

Sassybeast · 10/02/2010 12:17

I'd have to tell her that I was deleting her because she's an ignornat racist. THEN I'd delete her.

shockers · 10/02/2010 12:17

De-friend her and report her post. If you say something she may not take it seriously. If FB warn her she might just get the message that this was unacceptable.

Washersaurus · 10/02/2010 12:18

Report the status as racist, send her a private message and then remove her from your friends list pronto.

I use FB to keep in touch with a my small group of school friends - it is much easier to organise our meetups. It is also handy to keep an eye on what the teenagers in the family are up to
