To tell this 'friend' off for being, well, just disgusting?

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 11:57

I suppose this is more of a 'what would you do'?

I find one of my facebook 'friends' depressing. Everything she says is a cliché or at the very least the kitsch-est expression she can find. Everything's a drama. Everyone's against her. She posts jokes as her status that I find annoying ("Woman answers phone and pervert on the other end sez "have u got a big fat sweaty hairy cnt". Woman sez ," yeah he's laid on the fckin sofa, do u want him!")

Today, she posted this as her status: "15 year old paki next door has asked me for a water fight so I thought I'd txt u while I boiled the kettle". Nice. Really nice.

So I have a choice between a)de-friending her quickly and quietly b)replying to her status expressing my disgust and then de-friending her or c)posting something derogatory on my status and then de-friending her.

Or am I being unreasonable?

I should say that I went to school with this woman. I do remember her (vaguely) but we've never been friends and I haven't seen her in 15 years. Not even sure when I accepted the friends request.

this is a non-question. are you really deliberating over this?

move on. de-friend, whatever, but just move on. don't you have a mortgage to worry about or summat?

i like fb, btw. for keeping in touch...not keeping awake at night

Spidermama · 10/02/2010 12:20

B

She sounds absolutely fucking horrible.

goodbyesunhellomoon · 10/02/2010 12:26

she sounds like she's the 'big hairy cunt' not her husband!

I had a friend like her many moons ago. She wasn't racist but she became horribly coarse in her humour and a bully - it's often a front to hide deep insecurities.

I just moved on quietly as I suggest you do. You don't want to start entering into big showdowns with these sort of people.

ktbeau · 10/02/2010 12:26

Glad you did B, that was my choice

ConnieComplaint · 10/02/2010 12:27

What'd you write?

MrsGubbins · 10/02/2010 12:28

you can report her comment, not sure what FB do - if they send the person a message about their offensive status? I would remove her from your friends list, this is the problem with accepting old school friends that you haven't seen for 15 years, theres a chance that they've become ignorant, racist idiots.

I delete anyone who writes racist claptrap, an old school friend invited me twice to join an Islamaphobic group knowing I'm married to a Muslim!! FFS! and then the dozy cow kept inviting me to be her friend again!

Another old school friend keeps writing comments about how outraged she is that the UK is donating £50million to Haiti..... some people just beggar belief.

Most of the time FB is a good reminder of why I don't live in the UK anymore!

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 12:31

LOL, It hasn't kept me awake! It just happened. I'm stuck at home with a bug that's tapering off and had a look at Facebook. I acted pretty quickly to de-friend, but just wondered what other people thought. Isn't that what this forum is for?

I don't see that it's more insignificant than any other daft AIBU post, it just seems that lots of people don't like Facebook!

vanimal · 10/02/2010 12:34

B.

What did you write in your reply?

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 12:36

I have reported her. MrsGubbins, I know what you mean - this woman even has some of our Pakistani friends from school on her list!

Connie, I can't remember exactly what it was. It was pretty pathetic I think, something like "that's really unpleasant. You're rude, racist and stupid. Just horrible and I'm sick of reading your ridiculous statuses". how rubbish am I at the witty put-downs?

OP posts:
MrsGubbins · 10/02/2010 12:40

surely her "joke status" about boiling a kettle to have a water fight with the pakistani child, could be seen as inciting racist violence?

victoriascrumptious · 10/02/2010 12:43

That's utterly disgusting. I would have made a comment before defriending her too. People like this need telling-publiclly.

AliGrylls · 10/02/2010 12:54

Why are you still in touch with her? From reading what you have said I am offended.

hippacrocadillypig · 10/02/2010 13:13

Report the post and unfriend her. Now.

Rosieeo · 10/02/2010 14:25

Ali, I know, it's nasty isn't it? I'm not in touch with her as such. I went to school with her but didn't really know her. I received a friends request a while ago and then saw the above comment this morning. I followed the B option straight away (well, after posting on here in disgust/amazement) and have reported her.

I have to say that although I am disgusted, I'm not altogether surprised to see that kind of unthinking racism and nastiness from some people in this (and my, I suppose) area. It seems to be endemic to a degree. Another reason to add to the moving pros and cons chart.

Crazycatlady · 10/02/2010 14:50

Oh my, that status is sooo disgusting that I didn't even get the point about boiling the kettle until MrsGubbins spelled it out... I thought she meant to make a cup of tea and therefore the objection to the status was to do with her use of the word 'paki', (which in itself I think is offensive.)

Oh dear, she does sound like a nasty piece of work. Best off out of there OP.

Hullygully · 10/02/2010 14:54

I think she sounds a right larff!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be her mate n that coz she is well funny and you lot ain't got no sense of humour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doodlez · 10/02/2010 14:57

To say nothing makes you complicit in my opinion.

nickelbabe · 10/02/2010 14:59

Hully, you've missed a few exclamation marks off.

Don't be friends with people you don't like.

pooexplosionsareimproving · 10/02/2010 18:11

Just because there are morons on facebook doesn't mean that all of us who use facebook are morons.
There are quite a few on here too, and you are not morally superior becuase you haven't got the hang of don't use facebook y'know.
