To tell the next person who asks me "if it was planned" to......

..mind their own business.

Today I have been asked yet again if my (much wanted and planned) dc3 was planned.
I am sick of being asked this. Why do people ask this it is so rude!

Dh says to ask them if their children were planned.

people ask me too I like you DHs idea I might try it!

PacificDogwood · 07/02/2010 15:10

You should try expecting DS4...

"Was it planned?"
"Where you going for a girl?"

and (my favorite )

"Oh. I am sorry."

My stock answer is "well, after 4 MCs, I should know what I am doing". Usually shuts them up... Oh, and do keep smiling whatever you say.

Mumcentreplus · 07/02/2010 15:26

Some people are really quite rude sods aren't they?!..

When I see a expectant mum or a new baby the last thing on my mind is to ask it its planned???..wtf..is that any of my business??

because I had my DDs 18mths apart I was occassionally asked if they DD2 was planned..I would say 'she was a surprise baby..a good surprise!'..even my midwife laughed

hormonalmum · 07/02/2010 15:34

Pacific - sorry to hear about your m/c's.

I will keep smiling and reply as appropriately as I can manage!

YANBU. Go ahead. It's none of their business.

Scootergrrrl · 07/02/2010 15:37

My particular favourite, on hearing we were having number 3, was "Are you hoping for a boy or girl? I don't suppose it matters because you've already got one of each". That was after they'd asked if it was planned, of course.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 07/02/2010 15:38

I was asked that loads of times and was tempted
to reply
"Oh not total accident! DH got carried away and forgot to jump off at the vital moment!!"
Or
"Oh we're taking Durex to court for selling us a faulty batch of condoms!"
I wished I'd said either of the above just to see the smiles wiped off their rude faces!

TrillianAstra · 07/02/2010 15:55

Ask them if they want details of your sex life and ocntraceptive useage, or just a general summary.

WidowWadman · 07/02/2010 16:16

People asked me that too, and I've got only one. It's so intrusive.

oldraver · 07/02/2010 16:21

I did get this a little as I have two PLANNED but 20 years apart DS's, I was also asked while heavily pg with DS 2 if I was 'keeping it'. I was stunned and could only stammer "yes" to which I then got "You're not sure are ya". I wandered off before I thumped her. Like others DS2 was my 9th pg so very much wanted

satc2bringiton · 07/02/2010 16:23

I would never ask someone 'was it planned'.

However last week someone did tell me they were expecting No 5 and I replied 'are you mad ' afterwards I was just

MrsC2010 · 07/02/2010 16:24

We got asked this by so many people when we announced ours. It's our first (not here until the Summer) so you'd think peoples' first reaction would be congratulations! Even one of my brothers-in-law on first being told (we announced it very excitedly at Christmas) turned to DH and said "Ooooh, was it planned?!" I mean, who says that as a first reaction??!! DH just looked suitably annoyed and asked him how he'd have felt if DH had said that about either of theirs!

To be honest I don't know why it was such a surprise, we got married about earlier last year and everyone kept saying babies would be next!

MrsC2010 · 07/02/2010 16:25

Under what other circumstances do people ask if you've had accidental unprotected sex recently?!
