With DS my waters went at 35 weeks, no signs of anything happening before hand, they just went, pain started, DS delivered 12 hours later.

This time I am 39 weeks, was told by MW on Friday I am 3-4cm dilated. I have been having sharp, sudden pains all day, the sort that shock you enough to scream! They only last a few seconds. Had a bloody show this morning also. Baby very active!

DH can't believe I don't know whats going on!! AIBU and thick!!???

What do you think??

I would say call whether you are due to deliver and let them know what's happening. They'll advise you

The bloody show would make me think things were properly getting going

Good luck!

yanbu i was in denial about being in labour with ds2, as i was overdue and had been told there was a very low chance of having him without induction, i was booked in for the weekend but i had him on the wednesday. i thought it was just braxton hicks, although my mum kept telling me i was in labour. by the time i really realised it and called dh back from work to go to the hosp, and then by the time we got there the baby was almost out it was just another hour after arriving there. so it's a good thing in a way, if you are in labour but not sure then at least it shows its not too bad - otherwise you would really know!
but make sure you pack your hospital bag now and all that stuff if not yet done. (i only did mine on the day he was born, depsite not really thinking i was in labour i thought oh well better pack it just in case, good job i did)

kinnies · 06/02/2010 21:57

I would call labour ward to check.

Good luck

Well of course they're not able to tell you if you're in labour

But they are there to take your details, your history, check how you are coping and advise on whether or not now is the right time to go in or not

It's only a phonecall...

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 06/02/2010 22:01

Ah Firawla thanks I'm packed ready to go but just not emotionally ready! Don't want to sit around waiting in hospital either.....

Are some women this far dilated for a few days???

If the pain isn't lasting for more than a minute isn't that a sign to stay home too??

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 06/02/2010 22:03

StarlightMcKenzie i'm not going in before I do a poo at home!

OP's thread says she has not a clue if she is in labour or not

Methinks might be a good idea to call labour ward if that's where she's planning to deliver

lovechoc · 06/02/2010 22:07

oooh how exciting! good luck . sounds like this is the real deal!

I think she should phone because they might want her to come in to have IV antibiotics due to group b strep.

We're not going to support her through her delivery and post-natal care though, are we?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/02/2010 22:15

Give them a call, let them know things seem to be starting.

DS1 was induced at 42 +5

Waters went with ds2 at 1am on his EDD! Was checked over at 7am and told to go back the next morning to be induced if nothing had happened.

Started getting a few niggly pains around lunchtime so put the TENS on. Took ds1 along to his usual playgroup in the afternoon (dragged dh along against his will!). Contractions were coming and going but I was too busy nattering, eating cake and drinking tea to take too much notice. At about 3.30 pm they suddenly increased in intensity so we left. Took DS1 to my parents and headed to hospital. DS2 was born 5 minutes afetr we arrived - 4.30pm!

I think what I'm trying to explain is that things can progress quickly. If you're in 2 minds head in, especially as you've got the ab's to consider.

Good luck

xx
