Well, am I?

Sorry - that should have been 'YABU'!

edam · 06/02/2010 21:12

Um, cats are actually very good at hunting, McSnail... the difference is they aren't needy or sycophantic, hence don't hunt for humans, they just do it on their own behalf. Dogs are dim and make willing slaves, cats are clever and expect YOU to provide for THEM.

Batteryhuman · 06/02/2010 21:13

I love my dog and hate my DH's cat. It makes me sneze and wakes me up at night.

CarGirl · 06/02/2010 21:25

I love the fact you can train the dog and I can be master. I absolutely love not having to walk the cats though......

YABU. Cats are tarts and disdainful. Dogs on the other hand are loving and loyal and it doesn't matter what kind of day you've had, they still love you.

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/02/2010 09:44

Cats = Pets for lazy people

edam · 07/02/2010 10:07

Have you actually met any cats, Boney? Nowt lazy about being a walking can opener/door opener/provider of attention and cuddles.

Not that laziness has anything to do with it anyway...

itsfridayiwanttotalkbumsex · 07/02/2010 10:17

YABU

Cats live in your house and wouldn't give a shit if you were replaced by another set of "tin openers" in fact, probably wouldn't even notice.

They are not stupid!

Dogs on the other hand, love you unconditionally and would pine if you left them with someone else - a dog owner is more than a simple tin opener or claw sharpener.

They are however, stupid!

You can train a dog to repeatedly Sit, down, give me your paw, it will fetch the stick over and over again and never question why you keep throwing it. A cat would just look you up and down and think "fetch it yourself, what do you take me for - the help" and walk off with a flick of the tail.

Cats are easier than dogs, but dogs LOVE us - its a no brainer every time DOGS RULE, CATS DROOL

I should add tht i am bitter because my DP is "allergic" to cats and i can't have one

edam · 07/02/2010 10:20

Friday - dh is allergic to cats but when I eventually talked him into getting one, he became desensitised to her. Is still horribly allergic to any others, though. We are now on cat no. 2 and the same trick worked.

itsfridayiwanttotalkbumsex · 07/02/2010 10:32

DP isn't allergic to all cats - i keep threatening him with the "kitten test" - this involves taking a kitten and rubbing it on DPs face for a period of 15 minutes - if he can still see through this eyes after this time, the cat is safe!

Seriously though, he really reacts badly to them - he is a builder and often has to work in homes with cats and can tell if it is a cat house without the cat even being present at the time.

Tis not worth it for us im afraid, also my JRT has been trained to kill on sight - well at least chase them out of the garden - we got him because the neighbours cats kept shitting in my veggie plot - that worked JRT dug it up

nannynobnobs · 07/02/2010 11:17

I have a cat and a dog. I love them both but cats are better. I miss my old cat dearly my new cat is unremittingly savage but it is fun to watch the epic cat/dog brawls that go on in the evenings. She grabs his muzzle with her front paws, bites his nose and pummels his chops with her back feet. Then he plants her on the carpet with his massive head. Round two...

MrsChemist · 07/02/2010 11:37

YANBU, my cat is awesome. He is a big softie and always asks for cuddles.
He's clever as well and lets us know when someone is coming to the door, and I've even taught him how not to walk on the kitchen counter (mostly)

He brings in dead mice occasionally, but he also keeps them from invading.

pinkyredrose · 07/02/2010 14:16

YANBU cats are the best! My one has just turned 8, she gives me so much love, always meets me when I get in from work, I get so much affection from her. Plus she's just the right size to curl up next to me in bed!

Used to have a Red Setter, he was a right laugh but a bit too big to get on the bed, not that it stopped him anyway.

Spacehoppa · 07/02/2010 14:30

Please see the Pet Shop Boys...

Morloth · 07/02/2010 14:34

You have to choose?

I like both. A cat for snuggling on your lap purring and so soft (and great for vermin) and a dog for long walks and jumping about and playing with kids etc.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/02/2010 19:37

Someone earlier complained about dogs licking their balls. But at least they don't do that cat thing of sticking their back leg straight up and ostentatiously washing their bottoms. I bet in that position tomcats lick their balls too, but I'm sure no-one here can confirm or deny because no-one in their right mind keeps a tomcat.

Chillohippi · 07/02/2010 19:44

There's good and bad in both so I like to have both

jennieflower · 07/02/2010 22:21

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. love them all but dogs are the best.

My female cats feet absolutely stink, she's agressive and unpredictable, but strangely tolerant of children.

I've got a whippet sleeping across my lap at the moment, I've just given him a good sniff and he smells of absolutely nothing

queenoftheslatterns · 07/02/2010 22:27

ewww, no, no, no. YABVU. cats are sent from hell to ruin my garden and torment my poor dog. dogs rock!

BrahmsThirdRacket · 07/02/2010 23:06

YANBU. Dogs are alright, but cats are ace. Not liking cats is a dealbreaker in a relationship for me - I think it reflects badly on the cat-hater in question. People who love dogs and hate cats tend to like unthinking obedience from others. My cat basically has a dog's personality though - follows me round the house, gets sad when I leave, excited when I come back etc. and alright some of that is cupboard love but not all!

queenoftheslatterns · 07/02/2010 23:16

ah brahms, equally i couldnt have a relationship with a dog-hater. cats are too stuck in their ways and imo commitment shy. and did i mention the mess?

BrahmsThirdRacket · 07/02/2010 23:24

Dogs are far messier! They roll in shit and bring it in the house - a cat is far too fastidious to do anything so yucky.

queenoftheslatterns · 08/02/2010 09:24

none of my dogs have ever done that, neither have they gone into a neighbours garden and crapped all over the lawn!

Ivykaty44 · 08/02/2010 09:26

not if you are allergic to cats as my dd1 is and therefore a dog is much better.
