omg i'm in shock, took dd to the toddler group this am, haven't been for ages
few new faces, as we prefer surestart.

one mum who i've never met before openly said the only reason she claims jsa, is to save up all the money so they can go to florida

her husband has a good job and shes a sahm.

that can't be true surely?
i thought they sort of made you get a job when your on jsa?

she said shes making out shes availble for work and that her mother is going to have her children, and shes planning at least 2 more children, and when the youngest[whos not born yet] starts she will say shes no longer looking for work as her mum is no longer able to look after the children as her mum has ill health
wtf shes got it all planned out
that can't be right

once again, i couldn't think of anything quick or with to say so just sat there like a goldfish

If home reponsibility protestion is Income Support, then you don't need to signon and by definition don't have to be available for work. You have to be responsible for Children under 12 (there is talk of moving this to 7) or caring for someone and getting carers allowance. They are moving people off this onto Employment and support allowance to try and get more back to work.

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 22:17

You should get Home Responsibilities Protection automatically if you're getting either:

Child Benefit in your name for a child under the age of 16 and you have given the Child Benefit Office your National Insurance number
Income Support and you don't need to register for work because you're caring for someone who's sick or disabled

lazymumofteenagesons · 05/02/2010 22:17

Protection not protestion - sorry

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 22:19

any person ( lone parent) with a child 12yrs or over is moved on to JSA now..

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 22:21

Home Responsibilities is about protecting your pension...

"just a bit shocked someone would take money from the system for a holiday.
not something i'd do."

well I guess that all depends on whether she's claiming it legitimately or not.

Or are you saying that people on benefits in general shouldn't be allowed to save for holidays (obviously Disneyland is in a slightly different league - but perhaps a camping/caravan holiday in the UK??)

Home Responsibilities

my sister claims JSA and her partner works and earns good money. What pisses me off most bout her is that she openly says she isn't interested in getting a job because she'd end uo working on the weekend and that would eat into her time spent with DP. All she has to do is fill in a diary to say that she checked the job pages in local rag and went and asked in a few shops!!I think it takes the piss personally as she has been out of work probablymore than in work so can't have contributed that much to NI.

wubblybubbly · 06/02/2010 10:17

I worked for 20 years before being made redundant when pregnant with DS.

Because I had a husband who worked the ONLY thing I was entitled to was JSA, based on my contributions.

Again, I had to show I was looking for a job and attend in person every two weeks to demonstrate exactly what I'd done to find work. With a baby a few months old, feeding/changind every couple of hours, that wasn't easy, particularly since they would stand and chat, joking with their colleagues whilst I stood waiting for up to twenty minutes with a screaming baby.

FWIW, the rules allowed me to specify what kind of job I'd take, what hours/days I wanted to work, how far away I was prepared to travel and the minimum salary I'd take, which basically meant I didn't stand a chance of finding a job that met my criteria. A total waste of everyone's time.

In the end I stopped claiming because I found it so fucking humiliating trying to breast feed/change shitty nappies in that environment.

It has moved now, from 12 to 7yrs old.

Mumcentreplus · 06/02/2010 14:57

Chandra you must be in a pilot area..

chegirlsgotheartburn · 06/02/2010 19:55

wubbly sounds pretty much like my experience. I had to drop a valium before I went down there!

Two of the staff members cried when I explained why I had been off work - that helped

A different one said 'so Mrs Chegirl have you 'ever' had a job?' Frickin cheek she was about 20 years younger than me.
