omg i'm in shock, took dd to the toddler group this am, haven't been for ages
few new faces, as we prefer surestart.

one mum who i've never met before openly said the only reason she claims jsa, is to save up all the money so they can go to florida

her husband has a good job and shes a sahm.

that can't be true surely?
i thought they sort of made you get a job when your on jsa?

she said shes making out shes availble for work and that her mother is going to have her children, and shes planning at least 2 more children, and when the youngest[whos not born yet] starts she will say shes no longer looking for work as her mum is no longer able to look after the children as her mum has ill health
wtf shes got it all planned out
that can't be right

once again, i couldn't think of anything quick or with to say so just sat there like a goldfish

JSA for single person £64.30pw for couple £100. If you leave a job voluntarily you are sanctioned for a certain amount of time and don't receive JSA.

Some Job Centres are now getting tough on filling out those forms with what jobs you have applied for etc and getting increasing amount of people with no JSA and being turned down for crisis loans/hardhsip payments when they appear to have been looking for work peoperly. So I don't know how she is getting away with it.

SparklyGothKat · 05/02/2010 17:20

My DH was made redundent when we first moved in together, he was getting JSA for a month or so, while I was working FT, think he got about £50 a week. wasn't on it long though as he found another job.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/02/2010 17:29

You can claim contribution based JSA if you have worked in the last 2 years and paid enough NI.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/02/2010 17:30

I mean you can claim it whatever your living circs.

BouncingTurtle · 05/02/2010 17:32

I claimed JSA for 2 weeks, even though hubby was working, when I left my old job (complicated health/stress reasons). They knew he was working, as I wasn't sure I could claim but I was assured that I could.
You do have to report to the office once a fortnight to demonstrate you are looking for a job, but I actually found in my experience the JSA people were quite sympathetic to parents with young children. Because of DH's salary we would get no help with childcare, and I was not prepared to take a job when I ended up earning £2phr after childcare had been paid for, so work from home now.

Carrie - if what you say is true though, I think your friend is taking the piss, frankly. But it is nowt to do with you.

Good luck to her.

Dirtgirl · 05/02/2010 18:02

You can get contributions based JSA if you've lost your job, but only for 6 months. I claimed in the summer, but only for a couple of months. They didn't care about DH's income.

Pikelit · 05/02/2010 18:25

"custy, don't call me muppet, it's not very nice and it's rather rude"

You do know that you've strayed into AIBU don't you? Or has the Vicar suddenly started offering to refresh our teacups in here?

CarrieDaBabi · 05/02/2010 21:13

ok then, bad form to name call.

She can't have done much research or booked it yet..Disneyland isn't in florida..(it's Disneyworld)..disneylands are in Paris, California and Hong kong)

junglist1 · 05/02/2010 21:32

I hope they have a lovely time. I wouldn't begrudge children anything

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 21:44

Sounds very suspect to me and I actually know the rules!...she can claim contribution based benefits for a maximum of 6 months ..she has to be actively seeking work during this time..after 6mths she would only be intitled to credits...if she continued to sign she would still have to prove she was actively seeking although she would not receive any payments...her stamp would be paid at that time about 8 pounds a week or so..I dont buy this..why would she announce it?...seems weird

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 21:49

tbh actively seeking work means making notes in an ES4 booklet what you have done or keeping your own records of what you do to look for work..you can also give a verbal account...

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 21:50

me neither junglist

Alambil · 05/02/2010 21:54

Custy is it also next to the

CLAIM JSA AND GET A PLASMA TV FOR FREE

muppet indeed

Do you realise how LONG it'd take to "save" jsa for Florida.. bloody years.

mumeeee · 05/02/2010 21:59

When DD2 was claiming JSAshe had to go to the to the job centre once a fortnight at first then it canged to once a wee
k, She had to show them some evidence that she'd been looking for work and when we went on holiday for a week She was signed off and then had to sicn on again when she got back.

wubblybubbly · 05/02/2010 22:01

mumcentreplus, you don't need to be signing on to get home responsibility protection do you?

I'm totally confused what's happening with this now tbh

mumeeee · 05/02/2010 22:04

wubblybubbly I'm prety sure you don't. You used to get it automaticly untill your yiungest child was 16, But I think it's 12 now.

CarrieDaBabi · 05/02/2010 22:07

don't you think your a bit old for name calling
bit year 1 isn't it.

just a bit shocked someone would take money from the system for a holiday.
not something i'd do.

anyway off to watch tv now.
and get out of AIBU

Mumcentreplus · 05/02/2010 22:12

depends..is home responsibility to do with your mortgage insurance?...

wubblybubbly · 05/02/2010 22:13

thanks mumeeee, I thought that was the case, if you are getting child benefit in your name but wasn't sure it had changed.
