...to wonder why in the world you would want to view MN threads in alphabetical order?!

I have just noticed the option to "switch to alphabetical order" at the top of each topic page. I cannot think of a single practical application for this feature. Am I missing something?! I have never felt compelled to browse AIBU threads beginning only with H, or a threads on Weaning beginning only with Q.

So, AIBU? Is it really rather helpful in a context I cannot comprehend?

Perhaps if you knew a particular thread started with a particular word & you wanted to find it?

gagamama · 05/02/2010 10:37

Hmm, but what if, like me, they had started it with an ellipsis or similar?

Hello gagamama - do you know, we'd completely forgotten we had this link. (It's only in Classic at the moment).

Do you think it's useful at all?

Would it be good for everyone (ie those in MN New) to have it?

lou031205 · 05/02/2010 11:36

I'd love it. But in AIBU you would have a thousand threads starting with 'To'

zipzap · 05/02/2010 11:38

I inadvertantly clicked on the 'alphabetical order' link when my computer was playing silly buggers the other day and everything was happening too slowly - hadn't realised the page was still scrolling and the click actioned where it landed rather than on what I had actually clicked on IYSWIM.

I had absolutely no idea what had happened to mumsnet - couldn't understand the random nature of threads, why there were a load of threads with no titles at the top of the list, all sorts of old threads near the top...

I thought that maybe Mumsnet was having a blip and left it as it was late. Next day, exactly the same list, couldn't understand why nobody had posted anything...

Finally after some hunting around realised what had happened but I didn't just see the list and think oooh alphabetical and switch back. Probably didn't help that I hadn't actively chosen it!

And I did wonder 'why would you want to see the list alphabetically?' too

ooh, I like that. Very organised.

Appeals to the sort of person who organises their books by topic and size, and sorts the kids toys into boxes, by type.

MissWooWoo · 05/02/2010 11:48

are we allowed to put toys back willy nilly?

heQet · 05/02/2010 11:51

certainly not.

MissWooWoo · 05/02/2010 12:28

thought not
