To Despise The RBS

So, we've got a new house. We pay for the survey, the man is completely satisfied. Everything was fine, the RBS says they'll draw down the money and we pay our deposit of £50k.

All of a sudden at the very most last minute as the money was supposed to be drawn down the RBS withdraw their offer and say to us that they won't be paying our mortgage as the house has more than 2 acres and there for is for commercial use! All the information was sent as to the amount of land and it's clear that someone DIDN'T read the information properly the first time as otherwise we'd have known about this on applying for the mortgage when we gave the house details.

We had no intention on doing anything commercial with it, it is due to be our family home. we've paid a £50k deposit!

What the bloody hell are we supposed to do now?

find another mortgage?

midnightexpress · 05/02/2010 09:17

Can you not just tell them that it isn't for commercial use?

AKMD · 05/02/2010 09:17

Sue your mortgage broker?

midnightexpress · 05/02/2010 09:17

But no, YANBU at all, I should add.

hippacrocadillypig · 05/02/2010 09:41

Ring them up and tell them it isn't for commercial use and provide a statement in writing. But in the first instance ring the head office and make a complaint and say it needs sorting out as you are due to complete.

We do have another mortgage back up but it's not nearly for the amount that this is. It would mean us having to raise a considerable amount in a short space of time.

My husband has spoken to the broker again just now and along with the soliciter we are going to try and split the land so that they give us a mortgage for the house and 2 acres.

To be honest this is all going above my head and seems like complete nonsence. But I'm starting to feel incredibly stressed.

YANBU we have been customers for about 30 years and they wouldnt give us an extention on our overdraught that would be paid back in less than a week

SimonCowellIsSatan · 05/02/2010 09:46

I should add apparantly it's not as simple as telling them it's not for commercial use. They say that anything over 2 acres IS commercial end of.

I hate banks.
