I'd say that's fine, in a nice card saying she must spend it on something lovely for herself. Better than a slap in the face with a wet fish.
It's a big Birthday, so if you're feeling flush $50, but less if you're not.

Alternatively, you could order her some lovely things from Ren (who should be paying me a commission)

What about getting her a voucher for a nice beauty salon near her, so she can go for a massage/manicure/pedicure?

I would prefer that to money but maybe that's just me.

A voucher or giftcard would be nicer than hard cash IMO.
A voucher for a pampering treat is always a nice gift.

Sazisi · 03/02/2010 15:30

The problem is though that lots of gift vouchers end up never being used, and some mad people just don't like pampering treats.
cash is practical, and always gets used

I wouldn't object if a close friend sent me money for a big birthday

TheLemur · 03/02/2010 15:34

If she's turning 30 then how about cash or vouchers to the value of £30

wedgiesaurus · 03/02/2010 15:39

I second the idea of a cash gift. I detest vouchers - I currently have a quantity of vouchers for a certain shop and there is absolutely nothing I want there. Cash gives the recipient much more choice

easyoptionwoman · 03/02/2010 17:31

If it was my birthday I would be thrilled with money and £30 sounds about right.
