I am SO fed up of them being late out of school when we have to rush off to afterschool clubs. They are supposed to come out at 3.30 and we can just make the 4-6 yo gymnastics session if we leave at 3.30 on the dot.
So today i just walked into each of their classrooms and said 'excuse me Mr X I need to take Y now.' in a pleasant way.I think I'm going to do it every week now
I mean we get them to school on time, they should get them ou on time.

Because dear OP, the "I pay your wages" argument is used by people who can't think of anything more intelligent or incisive to say when they want to moan about how they think a public sector worker is doing their job.

Unless you pay a trolleyload of tax I doubt you are paying enough to keep this one teacher employed so you are, actually, not the only one contributing to her salary. And maybe the other parents are pleased that they have a conscientious teacher rather than a clockwatcher desperate to get out of the door when the bell rings.

Your child is not the only one in that classroom

princessparty · 03/02/2010 17:15

and it's not a 'free' education is it ? Free at the point of delivery , is most certainly not the same as 'free' .

I actually think it is extremely rude of the school to keep 60 parents waiting. They obviously assume their own time is more important than the parents' time. They ought to remember they are being paid by us .as taxpayers, to provide a service ,and they should do so professionally and courteously

haha. They do. They teach your children. They are suppose dto teach till 3.30 and that is what they are doing. Or do you actually have an issue with people doing their job just becasue it doesn't suit your arrangements?

HOw far away is this gym class anyhow and do you walk there?

MrsC2010 · 03/02/2010 17:17

Oh it's a perk, but one that certainly comes with its own dark clouds. I would suspect that most half decent teachers wouldn't state holidays as a main reason to teach. Not sure what relevance your opinion as to how lucky teachers are has to your lack of respect for their work with your children, but hey ho, I always enjoy a debate!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/02/2010 17:18

So, princessparty - have you any intention of approaching the teacher, explaining the situation politely and asking if your dd can be let out first on tuesdays? Or are you going to carry on doing what you did this week?

If it is the former, then maybe you have learned something from this thread, but if it is the latter, then you truly are a rude and obnoxious parent with a huge sense of entitlement and a very bad attitude.

And as Toccata asked - do you leave the building at your finish time, or is that when you square up your work and then go for your coat and bag - because as she says, there is a difference.

Have you even checked with the school whether 3.30 is the time that teaching finishes or the time when the children are supposed to be released?

As others have said, you knew what time the children got out of school, and you decided to book the gym class - so it is your problem, not the teacher's.

Fibilou · 03/02/2010 17:19

I doubt it SDTG - as the OP clearly does not think she's being rude/obnoxious/whatever and despite being told by everyone on this thread that she is being highly unreasonable she is still defending her position with the most ridiculous arguments.

ToccataAndFudge · 03/02/2010 17:20

oh gawd Diff - I nearly had a heart attack there - read your post and thought you were saying that first bit.................then breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when I realised you were quoting

getOVERyourself · 03/02/2010 17:27

"Free at the point of delivery , is most certainly not the same as 'free' ."

Eh? In what way is that not free?

getOVERyourself · 03/02/2010 17:27

And by the way, I did this namechange a while ago, but it's strangely appropriate for this thread.

2shoes · 03/02/2010 17:30

pmsl at this thread
post in AIBU and then never listen when people try to explain you are.........

differentID · 03/02/2010 17:31

sorry Toccata!

The seconf half was more me wan't it?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/02/2010 17:32

I'm afraid you are right, Fibilou. Her arrogance is astounding, and she clearly expected us all to tell her that she was absolutely within her rights to do what she did.

Still - I am sure she won't object at all when her children's education is disrupted by other parents coming into class whenever they want to, to get their children out.

And Princessparty - the teacher is TEACHING, not 'yapping on.' She is doing her job, as she is paid to do.

I am willing to bet that if she were to stop teaching early (thus depriving your children and all their classmates, but hey ho, that doesn't matter, does it?) so that they were all ready on the dot, for their parents to collect them, there would still be someone for whom this wasn't good enough, and who would want their precious child out earlier - so should the teacher stop teaching even earlier to accomodate them?

Of course she shouldn't. She is paid to educate your children, and she is fulfilling her side of the bargain. It is your role as a parent of a school child to support your child and to support the school and the teachers - something you are failing dismally to do if you are willing to disrupt their classes and to treat the teachers with so little respect. Teachers do a very difficult job - I doubt you could manage a class of thirty children for a day, let alone actually teach them anything!!

Speak to the teacher politely and respectfully about this situation, and you may get the result that you want.

If you carry on doing what you did this week, the headteacher will have to take action against you. She could even bann you from the premises.

cornsilk · 03/02/2010 17:37

Excellent trolling princess party.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/02/2010 17:37

Hello again. Still wondering if you have tried speaking to the teacher about your particular problem getting them to gym on time.

cornsilk · 03/02/2010 17:39

Jamie she is on a wind up.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 03/02/2010 17:40

Has she said so?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/02/2010 17:41

cornsilk yes, I'm coming to that conclusion. Need to stop rising to the bait

cornsilk · 03/02/2010 17:49

No she hasn't said so Fab but she has to be.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/02/2010 17:53

Even ds1 (aged 16) says you are being unreasonable, princessparty. He also says that if I'd done anything like this whilst he was in primary school, he would have been mortified, and his friends would have taken the piss the next day!

2shoes · 03/02/2010 17:57

next week there will be a thread about how op's dc's are being teased at school

getOVERyourself · 03/02/2010 17:59

Oh of course, have just realised, of course education isn't free pp

really free would mean society offering you and your children an education without you contributing in any way to that society, whether directly or indirectly.

and of course if it did that, you'd behave respectfully towards the teacher and not barge into their classroom like a loon

your sense of entitlement is quite staggering.

ToccataAndFudge · 03/02/2010 18:00

diff - yes it was the second half that made me realise that you hadn't lost the plot

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/02/2010 18:00

Or one asking how very dare the headteacher censure her for repeatedly bursting into her children's classrooms before the children are dismissed, and hoping for sympathy!!

OtterInaSkoda · 03/02/2010 18:02

Last time I heard someone tout the "I pay your/their wages" line was as I was booting out a pisshead from the bar I worked at.

OP - you don't pay the teacher's wages anymore than the drunk twat paid mine. Nor is the teacher providing you with a service. She is providing a service to the children she teaches and to society as a whole - of which you are a teensy (and deluded) part.

I do hope the OP isn't for real - the mind boggles!

princessparty · 03/02/2010 18:07

I'm not a troll!
I said earlier on that I would explain that I have to get them away at 3.30 on the dot for their gym class on Tuesdays.I will get DD2 to set her watch to bleep at 3.30 so she can put up her hand and be excused at 3.30 on the dot and DD2 I think that I will just have to go in and get but will formalise this arrangement.I didn't have to go to school tonight because they were both going back to tea with friends but will mention it before next Tuesday.
I am totally gobsmacked that posting something as non-contraversial as school pick up can cause posters, who don't know any of the people involved , to unleash such vitriol andpost things like 'nob end' and 'obnoxious cow'.
I can only imagine them at home sitting over the computer seething with anger and hate looking for any excuse to vent it , like 'disgusted of Tunbridge Wells'
Daily Mail readers have nothing on MNers!
