I am SO fed up of them being late out of school when we have to rush off to afterschool clubs. They are supposed to come out at 3.30 and we can just make the 4-6 yo gymnastics session if we leave at 3.30 on the dot.
So today i just walked into each of their classrooms and said 'excuse me Mr X I need to take Y now.' in a pleasant way.I think I'm going to do it every week now
I mean we get them to school on time, they should get them ou on time.

Just to clarify a couple of points PP - yes, teachers do get 13 weeks holiday. DH is a teacher (and I was), and I would say he spends on average at least half of every holiday he has doing school-related work. And he works one day at the weekend and most evenings. When I gave up teaching I gladly traded in my holidays for my weekends.

Also, school holidays don't save you a fortune in child care. Our children are at a nursery, and there is no way you can take them out during the school holidays and not be charged. We pay, whether DH is at work or not.

I worked at a school where all the children were Muslim and went to mosque class every night at 4pm. Not once did I have a parent banging on my window or barging into the classroom insisting they get to mosque on time. And they would probably consider that a slightly more important class than gym.

Of course YABU.

TheFirstLady · 03/02/2010 21:07

Princessparty - what kind of work do you do?

TheBossofMe · 03/02/2010 21:09

HAHAHAHA.

The irony of an OP who thinks its OK to pull her DC out of a class, where presumably she is learning to read, write etc, being utterly unable to write, spell or construct decent sentences herself.

I'm utterly gobsmacked at your sense of priorities, OP. Clearly with your attitude to teaching, your children have a long hard road ahead of them....

princessparty · 03/02/2010 21:21

PP do you really think the teacher is "not that clever".

No I don't think that.In fact in DD1's teacher's case he is extremely clever.I said I didn't think it necessary to be very clever in response to a poster who asked if I thought primary school teachers should all hold first class degrees
Actually lots of teh parents I speak to are irritated that their Dc's classes are dismissed up to 8 minutes late , when they have swimming lessons etc to get to.

well, PP, you don't seem to have taken on board the fact that teachers are contracted to teach until 3.30pm. It is only AFTER that are the children let out of class, and with the best will in the world, getting them all in ready to go home takes some time.

It is not the teacher's responsibility to work to your personal after school activity schedule.

Once you understand that you have got the wrong end of the stick regarding finishing times, I am sure you will realise you are being unreasonable.

MollieO · 03/02/2010 21:34

mummyloveslucy sounds like you have met the OP already!!

To OP you say that your dd's teacher keeps 60 parents waiting. How on earth is your dd in a class of 60? Or do all the children in your class have mums and dads who turn up every day to collect their children? Or does it only happen on a Tuesday when you have to get to gym class.

If I were you I'd be complaining to your LEA. 60 in a class with one teacher is ridiculous.

getOVERyourself · 03/02/2010 21:36

Up to 8 minutes!

Well call OFSTED. Tell them your children are getting 8 minutes free education. They'll soon put a stop to that.

fgs, what kind of life are children leading that 8 minutes each way can ruin their schedule?

lowenergylightbulb · 03/02/2010 21:39

I'm letting my class out on the dot on friday so that I can make it to the pub for four. (joke)

I bet if PP was one of my parents such a scenario would piss her off if her precious darlings came out coatless/bookless...or if she wanted to have a word with me about something.

ps. I mentioned Armstrong and Miller first but everyone ignored me and laughed at Springheeldjack

teamcullen · 03/02/2010 21:40

How did you just walk into the school and to your DCs classrooms?

Its like Fort Knox to get into my DCs school as we have very strict safeguarding policies. I certainly couldnt walk in and demand my children.

Id be more concerned on the safety of my children than the fact that they get out of school late!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 03/02/2010 21:44

alot of the parents might be slightly irritated PP but they are not storming into class to remove children and they're not on here starting outraged threads about it (and am still pointing out that you're doing all this when you haven't even communicated with the school about this!)

Can you not see your actions on this are completely out of proportion and weird?!

scottishmummy · 03/02/2010 21:56

oh haha princess by name, princess by nature.dear god no one musnt be late for gymnastics

do you really think you can have a tizzy and stroll into class and interrupt teacher

SpringHeeledJack · 03/02/2010 22:15

LesbianMummy1 · 03/02/2010 22:33

i am amazed that anybody could be that rude I have to pick up from dd1's school at 3 and ds2's nursery finishes at 3:15 quarter of a mile away doable if 3pm is time kids come out but realistically we are always late so i just told the nursery we would be there as quick as possible. Sometimes I have to pick up children from another junior school which finishes at 3:15 I made sure staff there knew i would be late. I would never just walk into a classroom at any school it's rude disruptive and inappropriate.

RedbinDippers · 03/02/2010 22:36

"Apart from that they need to do a thorough warm proper warm up and missing 10 minutes of it isn't good."

Couldn't you make them run behind your 4x4?

BlackJackScroggins · 03/02/2010 22:39

shock agreement with rbd!

RedbinDippers · 03/02/2010 22:45

How so, Fibilou ? Last time I heard schools were funded from the public purse.

Well done OP,
Now I know this a pretty successful troll, I'm off to start a how often should I beat my children thread

wonka · 03/02/2010 22:57

partly at the lack of security at your school.. and partly at the 6year old behaviour of the OP

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 03/02/2010 23:12

The daughter you're taking to gymnastics, she's, what, 5 years old?

Dear God, the idea of a 5 year old so tightly scheduled as this makes me sad. Let her run around a park, it's cheaper and you can get there any time.

psychomum5 · 03/02/2010 23:32

I am going to be very rude now, cos I can, and cos I am in hospital and so am taking a liberty not normally used.....

OP Off you fuck dearie!

MaureenMLove · 03/02/2010 23:34

You're a bad'un, you are!!

Why is this thread still going? Why are you all getting so wound up about it? And why the fuck is the OP still insisting that school should work around her kids social life?

Move on people. Move on!

MaureenMLove · 03/02/2010 23:35

Ooops! Ah fuck it, what the hell!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 03/02/2010 23:49
