Oh dear.

Please bear with me. I have hormone induced mental fog, of the worst kind, and have already had a postman stare at me for several seconds while I muttered things about my wardrobe, and shopping, and looking stupid because my trainers didn't match and he sort of went '..yeah'....'mmm'...'yeah..'

I explained I had been talking to a 2yo all morning but he had pretty much left the premises by then

ANYway here is the point. (is anyone still here?)
i had a lovely new coat arrive yesterday. It is very very lovely but was quite dear despite being in sale. It's lovely. And I felt guilty but finally decided to keep it, in the hope it would last me a few good years.
So, I took off the labels and undid the stitching on the pockets...only to snip the top stitch of the seam, and had therefore to fix that quickly with some cotton.
Job done, I put it on to go out, and found a HOLE inside the pocket

I couldn't have known it was there before as pockets stitched up...anyway, by this time I have already mended my snipped bit, etc. So I rang up the company and said 'look do you have any more please because I adore this coat' and they said 'er...no.'

I had the option to return it for a refund whichw as nice of them given the minor repair. But I love it and don't want to send it back.
I asked if they might reduce it further for me. But though she said she didn't think it would be a problem, I'd have to return it to the CS manager to inspect.

I asked her to promise me not to sell it to someone else by mistake, she said write a letter...so I have done, I have also attached tags back again with string, and written all over them my name and order number and DO NOT return to stock etc.

And then I sewed in one of ds's name tapes
I am ridiculously fond of this coat and due to the utter elbow bashing SCRUM the sale was last week, I know these things are like gold dust atm.

I am half hearted not to even SEND it (tho they are not TK Maxx obv )because I am scared I might not get it abck, and on the letter I have written that I will STILL have it back please even if they can't discount it any more.

My question is this: they are going to think I am really, really very mad indeed, aren;t they?

please tell me what I OUGHT to do. Should I stitch the pocket and just suck up the ££? Or is it worth the risk to send it back and maybe get, well, a tenner off?
Help.

Stitch the pocket

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 16:59

this is just karma for abandoning the ;buy nothing 'thread isn't it? It would NEVER have happened.

Oh the shame

You've already sticked a little hole, stick the one in the pocket!

They'll probably reduce it by tuppence and all this drama and agg for TWO PENNIES is just not worth it.

Pineapplechunks · 02/02/2010 17:01

If I were you I would repair it myself so long as it doesn't show.

WhoIsAsking · 02/02/2010 17:01

stitched and stitch obviously.

5Foot5 · 02/02/2010 17:01

If the hole doesn't show can't you just fix it yourself?

Obviously you shouldn't have to if it is that expensive but it sounds like you would have bought it anyway even if you had known about the hole.

BTW it must be something really special I don't think I have ever had such strong feelings or an item of clothing!

sunburntats · 02/02/2010 17:02

So,
youve got odd trainers on
you talk to your posty about wardrobes
you have a hole in your coat, which you love, which you have sewn stuff into, snipped with scissors and had converations with the company because you want it reduced, but want to get a few years out of, but want to send it back to be repaired....

  1. sew up the fecking hole yourself
  2. because by the time you send it and get it back repaired, it will be fecking spring and you wont want to wear it
  3. lOVE, have a nice bath, with bubbles tonight, get yourself a nice glass of wine and a takaway for tea.
  4. tommorow sew up the hole and wear your gorgeous new coat out and about and enjoy it. Above all, relax xxx
sunburntats · 02/02/2010 17:04

and seek medical attention for your obvious bonkers head induced by a 2 year old

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 17:05

Thankyou

5foot5 this is why I am concerned.

It is a fecking coat ffs.

I really am going a bit loopy.

You are crazy lady. I sympathise. But even I would not be waffling on about this nonsense, to myself or anyone else. Sew up your hole and get over it.

WineBeforePearls · 02/02/2010 17:09

I'm being like this at the moment about the name of our house, boring everyone and myself to tears.

Oh and yes just sew up the 'ole!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/02/2010 17:10

I'd just write a letter saying how disappointed you were to get this coat with a hole in and that this is not the quality you expected from this company, with whom you have been a long term shopper, etc etc

They will probably send you some vouchers or something

You will feel vindicated in terms of the cash and you will still have the coat

simples

OtterInaSkoda · 02/02/2010 17:11

You're not being mad FA. Just dottier than a dotty frock in Dotty P's

Dirtgirl · 02/02/2010 17:11

Flight, you're making me feel better about myself .

Just sew it up. You're clearly having a funny turn.

Pineapplechunks · 02/02/2010 17:11

How often are you going wear it? If it's everyday for the rest of the winter and some way into spring, not just this year but for several years after then don't think about the initial cost but rather the cost per wear. It will seem cheap.

They will almost certainly offer you a max of 10% off.

JeremyVile · 02/02/2010 17:11

No!
Keep it and fix it. You loon.

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 17:14

LOL at waffling nonsense, indee,d indeed!

Cirrhosis!!!!!!! You have it, dear, you have it - an answer. I shall do it.

Yes!

I did wonder what they would think about the name 'Peter' sewn into it.

There is something particularly hesitant about a welsh sales assistant's voice when she thinks you have lost a sandwich along the way.

OP posts:
CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/02/2010 17:15

love that it now has 'peter' sewn into it

Happy to help, Flight

upandrunning · 02/02/2010 17:16

Loopdidoo.

Sew it up. You could have sewn in the time it took to type the fruitlooniness of that post.

(but you could phone and say I'm keeping it but if I send you a photo will you give me a 10pc discount next time)

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 17:16

But I AM going to sew these tapes into everything I own from now on.

Then next time I do drop a hat or something, it won't get flogged back to me by some numpty.

at least that is a good thing to have come from this display of mental inadequacy.

thankyou all.
