I am really very confused, otherwise I probably would not have stumbled into Aibu.

Oh dear.

Please bear with me. I have hormone induced mental fog, of the worst kind, and have already had a postman stare at me for several seconds while I muttered things about my wardrobe, and shopping, and looking stupid because my trainers didn't match and he sort of went '..yeah'....'mmm'...'yeah..'

I explained I had been talking to a 2yo all morning but he had pretty much left the premises by then

ANYway here is the point. (is anyone still here?)
i had a lovely new coat arrive yesterday. It is very very lovely but was quite dear despite being in sale. It's lovely. And I felt guilty but finally decided to keep it, in the hope it would last me a few good years.
So, I took off the labels and undid the stitching on the pockets...only to snip the top stitch of the seam, and had therefore to fix that quickly with some cotton.
Job done, I put it on to go out, and found a HOLE inside the pocket

I couldn't have known it was there before as pockets stitched up...anyway, by this time I have already mended my snipped bit, etc. So I rang up the company and said 'look do you have any more please because I adore this coat' and they said 'er...no.'

I had the option to return it for a refund whichw as nice of them given the minor repair. But I love it and don't want to send it back.
I asked if they might reduce it further for me. But though she said she didn't think it would be a problem, I'd have to return it to the CS manager to inspect.

I asked her to promise me not to sell it to someone else by mistake, she said write a letter...so I have done, I have also attached tags back again with string, and written all over them my name and order number and DO NOT return to stock etc.

And then I sewed in one of ds's name tapes
I am ridiculously fond of this coat and due to the utter elbow bashing SCRUM the sale was last week, I know these things are like gold dust atm.

I am half hearted not to even SEND it (tho they are not TK Maxx obv )because I am scared I might not get it abck, and on the letter I have written that I will STILL have it back please even if they can't discount it any more.

My question is this: they are going to think I am really, really very mad indeed, aren;t they?

please tell me what I OUGHT to do. Should I stitch the pocket and just suck up the ££? Or is it worth the risk to send it back and maybe get, well, a tenner off?
Help.

Belle

In a few years I will also hit the tracksuit bottom point of no return. I just know it.

I need to keep up the pretence of elegance while I can.

They ought to send me to a little hut at this time of the month so I can just sit around and howl at the moon.

(have stitched pocket btw...twice, first time was a bit lumpy )

Can you buy pocket liners? I worry about the material. It seems prone to fraying.

Oh wow, it is very lovely! Check your yellow pages for a sewing lady person, unless you're v. good. Definatly don't send it away - it'll cost a few £ to repair.

compo · 02/02/2010 19:15

ooh tis a lovely coat
did you buy it online?

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 19:18

Thankyou,

tis all sewn up now, I think it will hold pennies which is all we have left now

I might not keep a fallen out crown in there though, next time that happens.

yy compo, it was in sale last week but sadly all gorn now

I really thought it'd come and I would post it back immediately due to ££
but I really love it. Wish Iw as as skinny as mrs whatsit on link though

Hope you don't mind but I think I'm going to call you Flighty (tee hee). At least you'll be wearing your elegant and lovely new coat. I buy lots of lovely clothes, shoes and make up and then can't be bothered to make the effort! The only time I look lovely these days is when I am hauled out of my home office to go to a meeting with (gasp) other people or have just come back from the hairdresser's!

I've actually made an appointment to get my nails done on Thursday for the first time in over three years. It's not good. I used to be so glamorous and now I'm more glum-erous.

Flightattendant · 02/02/2010 19:27

Oh believe me I have phases Belle

In fact because I find it so hard to wear dresses or skirts these days, I think the coat is my effort at being feminine iyswim.

It does feel like being a different person doesn't it, when you wear a womanly looking piece of clothing.

I think it is motherhood, hormones, eternal exhaustion and so on...hopefully it will pass and we will once again feel at home in our fancy stuff

No no don't return it! A very very similar thing happened to me, and I sent it back, asked for exchange and they gave me a refund, and then the price of the coat doubled (had been on offer)! It was tragic. I had to wait another 6 months before I could buy it again!

acebaby · 02/02/2010 19:36

Flightattendant - you made the right choice. Half of mn will have been after that gorgeous coat. Now, you need to get out and about to find some boots to go with it. Just to ensure you get full value out of the coat you understand

BelleDameSansMerci · 02/02/2010 20:33

acebaby you're my kind of shopper!

Booyhoo · 02/02/2010 20:40

i have only read OP but FA you sound suspiciously like a colleague of mine. and i love her so no you dont sound mad at all, although if it was me i would just stitch the pocket. i couldnt risk not getting it back.

MissWooWoo · 02/02/2010 22:36

don't know about anyone else but I'm very much looking forward to seeing more style dilemmas in AIBU

hbfac · 02/02/2010 22:46

Yes - more style dilemmas in AIBU.

Flightattendant - that is a gorgeous coat. I am envious. Even though I am a hobbit and I would look very, very wrong in it, I am still envious.

Result!!! I emailed early this am with a couple of pictures of the hole.

got a very nice email back offering me £30!!! So have said yes please

Aren't they a nice bunch?

Very glad didn't have to send it back. Pocket still feels lumpy so might get someone proper to fix it as that will be better.

THANKYOU all for helping me out yesterday.

You have now seen me at my strangest, I have nothing to hide
