To think Dirt Girl World on Cbeebies is utter diarrhoea

I'm watching it at the moment with my 5 year old daughter, she seems to like it. I think it's awful. Something obout it just dosn't seem right for young children, not sure what it is. Maybe it's the dodgy title or the fact that the little girl wears make up and acts in a kind of flirty way.
I just hate it, am I alone?

Used to watch cbeebies but programmes like dirt girl and the way the schedule changes really annoys me - don't they know kids like routine!!! And what ever happened to Get Squiggling - it used to be on every morning and the kids loved it and now it's just been off air for ages!!!

It's Nick Jnr all the way now as it's consistent and has better programmes like Fifi, Roary and so on. Shame because I try to avoid them watching TV ads, which Nick Jnr relies on but seems a smallish price to pay for way better programmes. So glad I'm not alone on defecting!

maduggar · 01/04/2010 08:40

Everyone in my house hates it - creepy & weird!

AntoinetteOuradi · 01/04/2010 08:41

I detest it.

TheLadyEvenstar · 01/04/2010 09:15

Another no DGW household here as well, DS2 is terrified of it!

rozyj · 07/04/2010 10:52

i just saw this while browsing the web, and couldn't agree more! I actually emailed Cbeebies telling them the expressions of dirt girl and scrap boy are quite disorienting, and they often conflict with what's actually being said which can be confusing for younger kids.. plus i don't really get the point of the not-so-child like pop-star song and dance routines (and yes, the make-up too).. they just wrote back saying they have got lots of positive feedback as well and we should give it anothr chance, lol.. maybe they should be directed to this discussion board!

thisisjuststupid · 07/04/2010 14:39

i hate it too, and i think cbeebies is heading downhill fast. the programs are rubbish generally. also hate underground ernie!

independiente · 07/04/2010 15:40

Nope, I think it's quite good, and DS likes it too. I don't think CBeebies is going downhill, either.

seaturtle · 07/04/2010 16:04

Dirtgirl is scary! But it grew on us in a weird way! Not a huge CBeebies fan myself at the moment. Every since our temperamental Freeview signal started picking up channel 5 we defected to Milkshake in the morning, which DS (aged 23m) loves, especially Peppa Pig.

For those who can't spell diarrhoea-

Dash In And Rush Round Here Or Else Accident

mylittlepeony · 20/04/2010 00:16

Seriously fellow mumma?s, is that all you see and think about when you watch a children?s program; sex, sex and more sex ( I believe someone even said anal-sex?), really, if your minds are in the gutter, then of course your little ones are going to think like that too! Perhaps try and see the innocent nature of such programs, and life in general.

Of course, your child and/or yourself may not like the program, hey there are some programs that I think are a little waste of time (umm TV is a waste of time, FULLSTOP ), but this is exactly what makes the world go around, us all liking different things. I ?spose I was just a little shocked to read such hatred and bitterness towards a, wait for it, a cartoon! Think what we had as children to watch, 20, 30, 40 years ago, think what our mothers would have thought or said, what their mothers would have said to them?

Maybe it is just being an Australian viewer, I am with Iluka here, not taking anything too seriously (such a waste of time that is), but I do believe the show is more than just a little bit of nonsense, there are some very practical tips for the garden and for your little ones, if you were to listen.

Of course she will have a limited vocabulary, all little girls, and boys, do ? until they grow up. And saying that other people?s comments read like propaganda because they like it, is well, rather a contradiction, don?t you think? If someone is ?spruiking? a show, or just saying they like it, does not always read as though they are getting paid or work for the studio, BAH!

chandellina · 20/04/2010 07:47

but why are her eyes practically on the side of her head?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/04/2010 07:58

Lol mylittlepeony. You don't need to have a filthy mind to see that the body language, flirty eyes, pouting, etc are strangely over sexualised and creepy.

Oh, and the lisp on the grub is BAD- it's not cutesy, it's just bad.

StrictlyKatty · 20/04/2010 08:42

When DH said he actually found himself attrached to Dirt Girl I realised something was wrong!

She is flirty, and prevocative and frankly I hate it. The way she winks when digging with a spade makes me shudder.

mylittlepeony · 20/04/2010 11:02

Hahaha how cranky was I?!

I am just a little disheartened to have the idea of DirtGirl, actually being a dirty girl, put in my mind. I suppose we watch it with the focus of being on the garden and the world around us, not on what she could possibly be meaning with her gestures. Then again, I see the double entendre in lots of things - you think I?d get it!

It?s going to be hard to watch now, and not see what you all are talking about?grrr the internet and google and discussion boards!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/04/2010 11:49

mylittlepeony. You see, once you see it, its all you can see in the programme, hence why we don't watch it! The idea is great - we need more programming aimed at educating about the environment etc, but the resultant product should be less provocative!!

Lutyens · 20/04/2010 12:13

I have no opinion either way, but 3.6 year old dd simply hates it. And she's the get-mucky type, so you'd think it would appeal to her! She finds the bug things scary, and can't connect with DirtGirl.

The only thing she likes about it is the tractor song. "chugga chugga stop"

mylittlepeony · 21/04/2010 01:48

Nup, can?t see it, not really anyway. I don?t think she is actually wearing make-up, it is just the design of the graphics, all little girls in any animation I have seen have rosy cheeks. Any wink I noticed, well, I see it as being a little cheeky, this is just what I know as friendly nature. I?ve never seen a wink as if to say, ?hey, I?m flirting with you!?

Anyway, each to their own, I don?t think it is unreasonable, but to call it ?utter diarrhoea? might be. I?ll be more mindful next time, with what we read and watch! However, I have to expect, if I am going to let my DD watch t.v, then there is always going to be something untoward, or the like. Say, Dylan from the Magic Roundabout, hmmm, a drug-addled rabbit, who is like ?wow man, look at my crop of carrots?! The Magic Roundabout is a far cry from Alice in Wonderland, but I doubt my daughter can see what I am seeing. Bah! TV, life, how diff is it to when we were kids!

thumbwitch · 21/04/2010 02:56

I didn't like it when I first saw it but have got used to it. I like the gardening/wildlife aspect of it and have got over the creepiness of the faces (now just think it's an interesting way of combining real film and cartoons). DS watches it sometimes but isn't bothered either way; and tbh I find it less creepy than those gruesome things on Waybuloo, which he adores.

It seems to be a joint Aussie/Canadian production, from what I can work out. The weevil has a Canadian accent but the others have Aussie accents here in Australia.

misspollysdolly · 21/04/2010 22:49

YANBU - I think it is mostly tripe with the occasional interesting scientific/horticultural fact...sadly my DCs really like it. The same (without the redeeming science/horticulture feature) the same could be said for 'Grandpa in my Farking Pocket'...utter tripe, but DCs can't get enough and think it's great - who knew...??!

ronshar · 21/04/2010 22:54

I cant watch it because I cant get past the name!!

Dirt bird just revolves round in my head.
Sorry if I have lowered the tone

VirginonRidiculous · 21/04/2010 23:25

A couple of us in a past thread realised that Dirt Girl also has done a voice over for a Dating Chat line. That voice cannot be mistaken. Dirty Dirt Girl!

I reckon she winks more than Katie Price/Jordan. I can't get away with the fact that her mouth is constantly open and then flicks out in to a pout when she talks...maybe it's just because it's a woman trying to act like a child and be all cutesy.

Apart from that I do still quite like it and have grasped a few gardening tips too, LIKE..Slug invasion? Put broken egg shells or rings of sandpaper around the plants you want to protect as slugs do not like slithering over rough surfaces. I haven't tried it but if she's wrong me and Dirt Girl are through.

nannieg · 02/05/2010 23:14

I have watched Dirt Girl with my grandchildren and I just wonder is she is the voice of Kathy Letts. Every thing about her is so like Kathy, the flirty eyes, face and mouth expressions the voice. I just wonder!

Colourmehappy2 · 02/06/2010 22:31

Dirt Girl is rather suggestive, but so is upsy daisy. I guess kids dont see what what us parents see. I dont think that there is any danger to children as it wouldn't be allowed on TV. I do think that kids TV has a lot of innuendos in it, but for us who are watching this pish in order to keep our wee ones amused. Wheres the harm in it?

Olliversmum · 04/12/2010 01:37

Unfortunately it is an Australian Program ( i hate to admit) It's really big over here. With the whole Eco Friendly fad that is going on over here. I guess it has a good msg behind it about recycling and helping the environment etc. But it's really kind of weird

nanararacats · 05/12/2010 16:39

What's the matter with you all Dirtgirl rocks! My littleys love it. It's different from the usual drivel and has a great eco message. If you think she's 'flirty' wash your minds out you mucky girls!
