To think Dirt Girl World on Cbeebies is utter diarrhoea

I'm watching it at the moment with my 5 year old daughter, she seems to like it. I think it's awful. Something obout it just dosn't seem right for young children, not sure what it is. Maybe it's the dodgy title or the fact that the little girl wears make up and acts in a kind of flirty way.
I just hate it, am I alone?

IsThatTheTime · 02/02/2010 20:16

Scrapboy reminds me of Pete Doherty. Which can't be good.

FuriousGeorge · 02/02/2010 21:50

horrible programme.I did notice this week though, that some of the accents are now English-it must have been dubbed over.No dubbing in the world can help the content though-it is pants.

I snigger everytime it comes on though-the name is just so suggestive.....

BelleDameSansMerci · 02/02/2010 21:58

I think it's beyond awful. There is quite a lot of crap on Cbeebies though. It's coming to something when Nick Jr is better option than the BBC.

wastingaway · 02/02/2010 21:59

Well I quite like it.

Don't little girls pout and flutter their eyelashes?

I don't like how Dirtgirl and Scrapboy's faces move about on their head, but other than that, it's groovy.

Trikken · 02/02/2010 22:11

dont like it, when it comes on even ds sighs and says "this one is rubbish mummy. can we watch chuglington (chuggington) instead?"

Beckypops · 05/02/2010 13:46

I was so surprised to see all the negative comments on "Dirtgirl" - my daughter and I ADORE it! We especially love the songs, and the fact that it's not syrupy sweet or "dumbed down".

I think the unusual combination of reality and animation is really interesting.

(Also, it is not Canadian, it is an Australian production.)

JemL · 05/02/2010 14:44

Beckypops Do you work for Cbeebies?!

NinthWave · 05/02/2010 14:48

YANBU

it makes my face twitch

iluka · 19/03/2010 04:38

Here i am in Australia googling Dirtgirl World because my 7 year old loves it, it's been on TV for 3 weeks now and when I read all these negative comments I couldn't believe it. We love gardening, it's colorful and cute, love that it's a little alternative and the music is great. Maybe it's any Australian thing not to take things to seriously. I think adults can read more into a show and have there own preconceptions Brats are definitely flirty but this is just wacky fun. I say keep supporting independent show's like this it keeps idea's fresh and kids minds creatively and cognitively engaged.

JoeyBettany · 19/03/2010 07:11

It's the weevil character I really can't stand . something about his prim face.

sausagepastie · 19/03/2010 07:46

Welcome to Mumsnet, Iluka and Beckypops.

I have to say your posts read like propaganda but then what do I know!

Someone behind DGW is taking the p, it's obvious - bit like Captain Pugwash.

She doesn't even look like an 8 year old, she looks like she';s about 18 and very promiscuous.

CrapSuzette · 19/03/2010 08:02

My 3-year-old DTs hate it. They also hate Waybaloo. Which is a shame, because that's all CBeebies seems to chuffing well show at the moment (and constant repeats of In The Night Garden). Thankfully, DTs seem to be 'off' TV at the mo and more interested in playing/fighting with each other.
Agree with Belle - Nick Jr much more entertaining (for me, at least).
What's happened to CBeebies lately? Massive slash in budget? Constant repeats? It's not been the same since Chris and Pui (sp?)left...

Adair · 19/03/2010 08:15

Ahh I am a real poster and I quite like it too but I HATE THAT SHE DOESN'T GET DIRTY!! Even her wellies are pristine . What kind of message does that send out? It's ok to do gardening as long as you don't get any eek mud on you. If there was any chance anyone was reading this who worked for the company , PLEASE make her have a bit of mud on her. It's a bit much singing 'going outside and i'm goin' a get grubby' but then being super clean...

Tbh I find it quite compelling and quirky (but then I seem to like all the shows everyone else hates! I hate Green balloon club/large family/chuggington yawn)

bubble3082 · 19/03/2010 17:15

lovechoc - after LOADS of searching (I clearly haven't got anything better to do ) I've found a cast list and put who I think they play:

Maree Lowes Dirtgirl
Michael Balk Scrapboy
Krew Boylan Grubby

There were also Gibson Nolte and Jason Davis but I can't figure out who they play.

SinninHinny · 19/03/2010 17:20

It weirds me out . It has been banned from my house.

Miggsie · 19/03/2010 17:32

It's the way she giggles, moves her head coquettishly, is obviously a full grown woman not a girl and should be on the cover of the Avon catalogue that annoys me.

And she has a very limited vocabularly, everything is "cool".

Dirt Boy looks like a reject from a boy band and the weevil is just plain creepy.

Oh and the grub thing which is a disembodied talking head....ugh!

Alexojus · 24/03/2010 17:06

I agree with you: for an adult point of view it is creepy, ugly and everything. BUT it is for children and my sons LOVE it!!! The idea of that cartoon is to take care of the nature and to explore the nature, nothing wrong with that!!! Stop trying to control your children's taste and think of it as just different kind of cartoons.

TheProvincialLady · 24/03/2010 17:11

It is a repulsive programme. I hate it and would not have it on at home. All those coy, flirty looks and the winking....totally inappropriate.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 24/03/2010 17:22

I think one of the reasons why she looks so odd, is that she doesn't have milk teeth, but adult ones, they have put adult eyes and mouth onto a childs face shape.

It's just bizarre, and very creepy.

SpiritualKnot · 24/03/2010 20:45

Here's a link for anyone who,like me , don't know the programme!

dirt girl

Haven't got sound on this computer, so can't judge it by that, they look a bit odd, I'll have to watch out for it on the TV!

ArgentMori · 27/03/2010 19:08

Personally I LOVE it. Try and look beyond the unusual exterior and see that it is one of the few programs on tv at the moment that is sending out a good, eco-friendly message towards children. I'd be more worried about In the Night Garden - that stuff's freaky!

Happybutknackered · 27/03/2010 20:31

My 2yr old is frightened of it and I don't like it either. Very weird.

WibbleDribble · 27/03/2010 20:49

DGW truly is a complete pile of arse but not half as vile as Lazy Town....Or the Tweenies/Tellytubbies - what is the matter with them that they don't they speak properly? Hooray for the Clangers and Morph, that's what I say. Ahem.

sazzerbear · 27/03/2010 20:51

Dreadful!

mesobitchy · 27/03/2010 20:58

Urgh YANBU it's crapity crap.

Someone may have said this before ( sorry if you have! ) but Grubby... very Davina Mc Call isn't she?!
