to give the people I'm buying a house from an ultimatum?

Offer accepted 4 September, hoped to move in well before Christmas. The vendors have dragged their heels, but always said they would move out when I was ready. I have been ready to exchange for two weeks now, they are still dithering about. We can't exchange because they haven't returned the contract to their solicitors. They are buying a run-down house, which is also ready for exchange, and moving into a house run by a friend, so could have moved at any time.

It is now over 12 months since my marriage ended, and we are still living in the same house while I wait for these people to sell me the house that they were so keen to sell. I have told them we exchange by the 5th and complete by the 12th or I will withdraw my offer for their house. AIBU, or have I waited long enough?

YANBU

You're offer was accepted nearly 5 months ago. Maybe by giving them the ultimatum it will make them get their arses into gear.

yanbu. You're well within your rights to be mighty miffed with them.

Legally i believe there is something your solicitor can issue to give them a boot. Notice to exchange or complete or something.

No wonder you are climbing the walls. Poor you, i hope you do get it all sorted!
