To want to throw my ironing board out of the window

and then jump up and down on it???

The metal stud thingies in the legs had come loose and when I picked the board up the legs slid down and got stuck - I asked DH this morning to have a look at it before he went to work but he didn't get around to it ( due to spending 15 minutes in the loo with his iphone before getting ready ) so , he goes to work at 12 and I traipse upstairs, get down my humungous pile of ironing ( 'cos I haven't ironed in a fortnight but still ) - I picked up the board and it literally fell to pieces, hitting me on the head for good measure - I was almost apoplectic with rage at this point.
I've tried pathetically to put it back together and can't , DH would have fixed it in 30 seconds but I can't even remember how the legs fold up!
Oh well, at least I can surf the net instead of ironing!

oh god life is too short to iron.

i retired at the peak of my ironing career nearly 4 years ago and have never looked back. it is truly liberating

famishedass · 29/01/2010 13:02

you need

one of these

BrahmsThirdRacket · 29/01/2010 13:03

YANBU there is no point in ironing anything, I never do. ESPECIALLY children's clothes, why do people bother? Except maybe shirts. Your DH can do his own. You're free!

BetsyBoop · 29/01/2010 13:03

ironing, what's ironing?

Oh hang on a minute I think I've got one of those lumps of metal things that you plug in at the back of a cupboard somewhere....

Seriously life is waaaaaay to short for ironing

Pikelit · 29/01/2010 13:03

We do so little ironing that it took a visit from ds1 (who needed to iron himself a work shirt) for us to realise we'd failed to replace the last ironing board. Six months after it'd gone in the skip!

Just break free. Spend a little more time on how you tackle the clothes immediately after they come out of the washing machine - uncreasing, drying carefully, hanging up properly etc., and you'll be amazed at how very little ironing actually needs doing. I speak as someone who cannot abide creased clothes either.

YANBU. I recently took the drastic step of sending dd to school in unironed clothes. She didn't notice.

Shake & fold, Mal.

Shake & fold.

I do very little ironing but DH wears 5 clean shirts a week and 2 pairs of trousers and there are my work clothes, that's basically all that gets done.
As DH is out if the house 12 hours a day and I only work 3 hours, it's me that's stuck with the washing and ironing, tis only fair.
He is, however, far better at ironing shirts than me, ex military you see.
Takes me 2 mins to iron one and he takes half an hour.

Who in their right mind would spend £895 on an ironing board?

I was in shock at the humiliation of being attacked in my own home by an inanimate object! I do tend to get enraged when things don't do what they are supposed to.

I've just ordered a new iron and was sorely tempted to buy a steam generator. I love ironing and iron everything.
I've been known to get out the ironing board to iron a pair of socks, or one duster.

It's fun, really.

I'm loving the use of the fantastic word apoplectic! I don't hear it often enough [saddo emote]

JemL · 29/01/2010 13:32

We were in Robert Dyas earlier, and DS1 pointed at an iron and asked me what it was. He is nearly 4.

musicalmum43 · 29/01/2010 17:47

JemL I salute you.

mathanxiety · 29/01/2010 17:51

I never iron, never have. I have a little table top ironing board just in case, but I don't know how to set it up. And even if I figured that out, I don't know where my iron is. I am a dab hand at folding.

Fluffyone · 29/01/2010 17:53

Do it, throw it out the window!
