to be annoyed with this ebay seller?

bought something from ebay, paid immediately. A few days later got the "sorry you were out" Royal Mail card. Picked upi the item yesterday.

In the meantime, seller has messaged me x4 saying "have you got the item, hope you are happy, leave me feedback and I will do the same for you"

Now, I think that if s/he is going to leave feedback, they should have already done so since, as a buyer, I've done everything I'm supposed to do ie paid for the item!! I'm a bit about the implication that his/ her feedback will be based on whether mine is in favour of them or not.

Whenever I sell anything, I always leave feedback as soon as the buyer pays.

I know I am just in a snippy mood, but this has irritated me and, pettily, I don't feel like leaving feedback at all now!!

Pretend you haven't seen the message, if I get one like this I wait ages before leaving feedback, just to be mean. They shouldn't be so pushy.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 28/01/2010 18:16

Then don't. She clearly doesn't want to leave you any until you have left yours so I would leave nothing or neutral.

misssurrey · 28/01/2010 18:22

Well, she can't leave you bad feedback, or bad feedback in a positive, iyswim?

I'd leave a neutral and say you were happy with the item (when you get it and if you are) but felt the constant badgering for feedback was unecessary, after all, it is optional!

Or just don't leave any.

nancydrewrocks · 28/01/2010 18:22

I wish ebay would change the rules so that the seller has to leave feedback first. I have twice received neg feedback after paying immediately but complaining and then leaving neg feedback where I have felt that teh seller has actually been dishonest.

Fluffyone · 28/01/2010 18:22

When you leave feedback they know you've got the item, for one thing. Until they know you've got the item they don't know you are happy and everything has gone OK. Say for example the RM had lost your parcel and you were unreasonable in the way you dealt with the seller over that, they would regret leaving you good feedback.
I sold my stepson's PS2 for him on EBay, sent with a certificate of sending, but stupidly not trackable. (I don't do that now!). 3 days after the seller paid for it, he filed a Paypal dispute saying I had not supplied the item. He also sent me abusive emails. But he won, because I had no proof of delivery. Undoubtedly what he'd actually done was exploit the Paypal loophole, got the parcel, seen I didn't send it signed for, and that he would therefore win the Paypal dispute. So he got the playstation and a full refund.
That's why sellers don't leave feedback until the feedback is completed.
Unfortunately, sellers can no longer leave any negative feedback at all, but at least if you get a bad buyer you can leave none.

Fluffyone · 28/01/2010 18:24

Sorry, I meant until the transaction is completed.
He left me negative feedback as well, just because I tried to contest his Paypal dispute and didn't roll over straight away. Ebay is too far in favour of buyers at the moment, we don't need that to go any further. It puts genuine private sellers off using the site.

ToccataAndFudge · 28/01/2010 18:26

I never leave feedback when I'm selling until the buyer has left feedback -

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/01/2010 18:30

If I am selling, I always wait until the buyer has left feedback before leaving mine, as I want to know they have received the item and are happy first.

I don't chase up for feedback though.

misssurrey · 28/01/2010 18:32

I don't leave feedback until the buyer does either...it's a pain to wonder if they've had the item on the odd ocassion I have sold something..I don't release any money into my bank account until they do. Four emals is excessive though, for sure.

But...I think it's right that it should be geared towards buyers. There are always going to be knobs that try and diddle the system, all you can do is cover yourself to the hilt when sending stuff.

I had trouble with a seller, the item they sent was damaged in the post, they were arses and didn't want to know, eBay asked me what I wanted to settle and all I wanted was a partial refund, so they gave it to me. I would have prefered and apology from the tit of a seller though.

Coldhands · 28/01/2010 19:40

I hate this. I always leave feedback as soon as I have received payment and the buyers part is done. It really annoys me when sellers wait until you have left yours before they leave theirs.

YANBU, it also bugs me when they chase for it.

Tortoise · 28/01/2010 19:43

I am the same as Noah.
I like to know the item has arrived and is ok before i leave feedback. I never contact for feedback though.

momofnearly2 · 28/01/2010 20:00

It's like a game for most people.

I paid straight away now leave me feedback. I will leave you feedback when I have received the item and if I am happy with it.

It doesn't matter whether I am happy with the product or not, The seller should leave feedback straight away because I have done everything they asked including paying straight away.

So no YANBU
