to be utterly bemused by my mother's obsession with comfortable knickers?

My mother has this idea that the perfect pair of pants is out there somewhere, just waiting to be found.

If I mention that I have new underwear she immediately wants to know Where From, and Are They Comfy? All hers are wrong in some crucial aspect. This could probably be solved if she'd buy one size bigger but anyway...

Now, not content with searching the earth for her own Holy Grail of knickers she has started on DD(6). She buys DD pants and then phones me up to describe them and ask if I want them for her. Sometimes she even phones me from in the shop to talk about them. She requests that I send her a pair that fit so she can compare them in the shop, and when I say 'But Mum, DD has plenty of pants at the moment' she says things like You Can Never Have Too Many, and Children Grow Fast.

No matter how many times I explain that we do not need any more fecking knickers for DD she doesn't give up. 'But are they the right size?' 'Are they comfy' she will ask, weeks later.

Then, then, when she has DD to stay for the night, she rings in the morning to say accusingly, 'You didn't send her any clean knickers'. Well, keep a couple of pairs at your house then, I suggest. Oh no, she says, they wouldn't get the wear [arrrgghhh]

Oh no, she never tries to buy me any underwear - I have a suspicion she just thinks I am not capable of buying any good enough for her only granddaughter's precious bottom

How old is your mum? I found I became somewhat obsessed with comfy knickers when I hit my late forties.

I recommend M&S Midis in case she's interested.

My mother is also obsessed with comfy knickers. I think it's partly an age thing and also just that, in their day, some how knickers were the thing mothers bought - garish '70s brown and orange mens' underpants bought by women for their DHs and DSs, and great big seventies knickers for daughters - I think I was at college before I had any say in my knicker requirements! She still goes on about 'wouldn't you like a comfy pair of sloggis dear...'

my mum is obsessed with them also!

She worries about my "tiny" ones (brazilian knickers mostly) every time he sees them hanging on the line!!!

She also buys my DC loads of pants, especially from France , my DCs now refuse to wear M&S ones as they are not as comfy!
