animal lovers

In my honest opinion people I have metwho are animal lovers tend to be much nicer people than those who are not.Does anybody else feel this way.A simple but imo true observation.

I agree.

However, I just can't take to people who treat their pets like spoilt children, and use special baby talk with them - that just makes me cringe!

tialys - I agree. But if we say 'aw - waddid daddy do' in a baby voice to our dog she starts limping (even though DH has never laid a finger on her and we don't call each other 'mummy' and 'daddy' to the dog)

hmmm interesting - and I do kind of agree...

BUT - when am walking my dog I meet some really obnoxious people - who clearly love their snarling beast... and I just think that as in all walks of life you get some people who are lovely and some who are wankers

Having said that - it depends what you mean by animal lover... cos people that run rescues - or love many animals do tend to be lovely... Maybe people that love dogs but hate cats - less lovely

not in all cases, i had a friend at school who was brilliant with her animals but crap at being a friend

I always used the way men treated my pets as character indicators. Those that fell short were binned immediately. Dh is massive animal lover and 100% fantastic with kids.

of course they are !! but i want to point out that not all animal owners are animal lovers and just because someone doesn't own any pets doesn't mean they are not animal lovers

ocdgirl I agree with you entirely on that point.MY dh has just pointe out that he thinks most people ar e animal lovers I am not so sure about that one. think it is a shame as a nation we are reknowned for being animal lovers, yet the media portrays the opposite as being the case.

Oh, I dunno.

I've met a few animal lovers who were complete bastards.

I'm sure if I wracked my brains I could think of a serial killer or two who had pets.

However, on the whole, compassion is compassion, innit?

Agree with ocdgirl.

I love to see animals in their natural environment. I don't think that someone keeping one in a house/flat proves they like them more than me.

Also there are all those people buying large attack dogs to look hard.

I agree actually. We are kinder. You can tell a person by how they treat things that can't defend themselves. My friend used to treat her dogs like shit, now she's put her son in care because she has a new baby with a new man. You're either kind and sweet natured, or you're not.

hmm don't agree. you know how the krays loved their mother, could say the same about a certain someone but replace mother with animals.

Actually, I've thought of an exception - there's a lady who lives near me who has a stinking house full of cats. Now she's an absolute cow!

I think tialys's exception falls into a different category - people who don't like other people so only share space with animals. Maybe due to poor social skills?

But in general I agree with op.
