I have started buying things from White stuff as I'm fed up of shopping at the same shops as my mother who thinks she is 30 not 60. I am being unreasonable to tell her that my new white stuff is from " a little shop in my home town" or topshop ( which is too trendy even for her) becuase i know that white stuff will become her new favourite shop if she goes in there?

petty i know, but she is soooooo frustrating....

nope- not petty at all.

alternatively say you got it from a really cheapy shop you know she wouldn't be seen dead in.

YANBU at all. My mother has a tendency to this sort of thing. I recall the incident of the identical shoes with horror to this day.
It reminds me never to do it to my daughters.

I have a couple of nieces in their early 20s who have had an indirect influence on my purchases. As my elder niece hit her teens, I felt I had to desist from buying the brands she liked at the time like Miss Sixty and Guess.

Does anybody else find that they're wary of buying from the Hobbs (especially suiting and occasion wear) and similar stores which may well be frequented by the in-laws? I also stopped buying from Whistles after the woman who would be my sister-in-law bought a dress in there. I don't think she's been in since but I'm not taking any chances....petty I agree.

i agree, dont tell her.
My mum also does this. Then she turns up wearing it and says something like she liked it so much she had to get one the same.

NO!!!

She also copies my hair.

I've also noticed that when I do go shopping with my mum, she will tell me that I look nice in things that I look awful in. I've recently lost a stone but could she bring her self to "notice"...hell no.
