to think it's such a shame Heather Mills is such an unlikeable person

as if she was nice and normal, she would be such a fantastic role model for disabled people

Watching her on Dancing on Ice, it's really great that she attacks things with such gusto and her disability really doesn't seem to stop her doing much.

Would be lovely if she wasn't a fantasist/weird and more likeable

Is she that bad?
I don't have much an idea of her as a person

AgentZigzag · 25/01/2010 13:20

I agree, there's a ballsy part of her that I like, and as you say she's not let her disability stop her from doing anything.

But when you look at that interview she did on GMTV, she came across as mad as a box of frogs.

tallulahbelly · 25/01/2010 13:20

But if she wasn't such a shameless liar fantasist we would never have heard of her and she wouldn't have a chance to be role model for good or ill.

(Spends moments in quiet contemplation of how pleasant life could be)

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/01/2010 13:23

I was actually thinking aboyt this this morning.

I am not watching dancing on ice, however it has out her back in the public eye again so people are talking about her on radio etc.

I hate the way that mocking her disability is a given. It is bloody horrible all the random jokes etc.

Yes she doesn't particularly come across as the nicest woman in the world but surely she is to be admired for not giving up and going for thuings, despite having an horrific accident.

And, she did work very hard for the landmines charity prior to meeting Sir P. So, she probably wasn't the wide eyed ingenue whilst undertaking charity work, and probabbly always had her eye on the publicity such acts would bring her, however she is not worse than a lot of steely eyed self publicists I could mention. Kate Winslet, posh spice, Jordan are all guilty I think of rampant image control,m and for the most part they have avouided the hatred that Heather Mills has.

Fair play to her actually for getting on with life. I can't imagine that marriage to 60s relic Sir P was a barrel of laughs, and expect the stepchildren were pretty unfriendly also.

Bobbiewickham · 25/01/2010 13:26

She wasn't in a good place when she did those interviews, was she?

I'm not her biggest fan, but most people don't have headlines slagging them off and raking up the past at the same time as going through a divorce. Must be horrible to feel you have to defend yourself at a time like that.

And the thirty second makeover she gave that lawyer (can't remember name) was pretty impressive...

donkeyderby · 25/01/2010 13:32

I've heard that old Thumbs Up isn't such an angel either. Must be hard to live with someone who has been elevated to the status of a God since his early twenties and he's meant to be shockingly tight with his cash. Saw an interview with Carla Laine once who seemed to be suggesting that he was not always very pleasant to Linda and she was pleased he was with Heather because she could stick up for herself. Maybe she couldn't though, who knows?

I too hate the way people focus on her disability and take the piss. If she's a liar then take the piss out of that, not her disability

Amandoh · 25/01/2010 13:33

I don't know why she is so disliked?

Ok, she had a pretty disastrous marriage and then walked away with quite a lot of cash. She's not the first and she won't be the last much younger woman to divorce a famous and wealthy man. There's lots of them out there but how many of them are hated so publicly?

She was a glamour model who lost half of her leg in a road accident. Hardly a career boost. She didn't wallow or let it ruin her life though and made the best of the situation she found herself in.

The media thoroughly dislike her (I've no idea why.) so we rarely hear about all the good work she does for charity and anti-fur campaigns.

noddyholder · 25/01/2010 13:35

I think she's ok.She opened a vegan cafe near the local skate park where ds hangs out.It used to be a cafe where they could get chips and general junk and she has attempted to accomodate them by having a few cheaper things. The boys who have met her seem to like her

Buntytea · 25/01/2010 13:35

I agree GetOrf.

I don't know why it is acceptable to mock her disability, but it seems it is. I am often hearing her being called 'peg leg' etc and it's just not on. If you don't like her for whatever reason, maybe you think she's a gold digger for example, then criticise that, but don't pick on the fact she has a disability.

For what it's worth, I don't agree with a lot of her views, but I do think she does a good job at showing what people with disabilities can do and I don't think she gets nearly enough credit for it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/01/2010 13:37

The media have hated her for so long I am sure the reason for the hatred has been lost in the midst of time.

I remember seeing her being slated in the papers - she was pictured with Paul at a fashion show, all of them were being utterly vile because in the picture she was doing the 2 finger peace sign, the commentary was along the lines of oh Linda used to do the peace sign who does this upstart think she is etc etc.

If you looked closely at the picture you could see that the person doing the peace sign was actually Sir P - her hands were intertwined with his. They were just looking for soemthing to slag her off for.

Let's not all forget that the media were also vile to Linda M before she got cancer and became a Celebrity Cancer Death thereby earning respectful tones in the papers.

nickelbabe · 25/01/2010 13:41

she was featured in New Scientist this month quoted as saying that meat stays in your gut for 40 years and putrifies and then causes all sorts of horrible diseases.
she wasn't the only one, though: lots of celebs have some very strange ideas of science....

don't have an opinion on her, so i can use the

ajandjjmum · 25/01/2010 13:46

She does seem to talk about her leg an awful lot!!!

Nancy66 · 25/01/2010 13:46

She was a meat eater before she married McCartney - now she's this campaigning vegan, just like his dead wife...bit weird isn't it?

let's not forget her past long before she hooked up with McCarntey - massive history of being a liar, a taker and a fantasist with very little regard for the feelings of others.

she's disliked because she's unpleasant.

TheBossofMe · 25/01/2010 13:54

Weren't there loads of questions thrown up about how much she really has done for charity? I may be wrong, but I'm sure the judge and PMs lawyer in the divorce case agreed that she had done hardly anything except charged a lot for charity appearances, wardrobe etc, and donated very little (nothing according to her tax return)

notanumber · 25/01/2010 13:58

I dislike the way she has been bullied by the press.

An egotistical fantasist she may be, but the sheer unpleasantness of the sustained personal attacks against her leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Tamarto · 25/01/2010 14:03

I'm confused by those who say it couldn't have been a barrel of laughs with PM, she chose to be there, if he is as you say and i've no idea, why wouldn't she have known what you know?

notanumber · 25/01/2010 14:17

Tomarto - In the judge's judgement of the divorce case - in which he acknowledged that several of her wilder claims were not credible - he did state that in his opinion Mills is "...a kind and loving person who was deeply in love".

So I imagine she married him for the same reasons most of us get married. Because she loved him. And it didn't work out - heaping all of the blame for that onto just one party is crazy.

I'm not saying she's some kind of saint figure (Perhaps this is how she would like to present herself). I'm saying she is clearly very vulnerable and troubled. Painting her as a vile monster refelcts pretty badly on the press who did and do hound and harass and bully her, in my opinion.

LillianGish · 25/01/2010 14:28

Whatever she may have done/said in the past to earn the bashing she gets from the media, she is absolutely inspirational in Dancing on Ice. She doesn't just skate well for a person with one leg - she is actually much better than many of the other celebrities. She certainly gets my vote - I think she should be allowed to put the past behind her (in any case do we really all believe everything we read in the papers?)

MrsVidic · 25/01/2010 14:28

isn't that what our society does- deamonise the young wife- then claim she's crazy when she speaks up?

The papers were very harsh on her- it would be impossible to live up to his widdow.

If a man shouts he's upset/angry/got a good point if a woman does she's hormonal

I have no idea about the in's and outs of their marriage but she does seem to care about her charity work- I saw a gmtv interview where she's now asking for 2nd hand limbs etc to send to haiti.

BigBadMummy · 25/01/2010 14:31

I can't stand her.

Her whole life is built on lies. She is a fantsist. Everybody close to her says that too.

She denies ever being a porn actress but there is evidence that she was.

Even her own father has given accounts of stories where she has blatantly lied.

She is nasty.

"what first attracted you to the multi millionaire Paul McCartney".

"my best friend only has one leg"

My personal quote of the week.

Nancy66 · 25/01/2010 15:26

that made me laugh too - but thought I'd get shouted at if I wrote anything.

the amputee equivalent of: 'my best friend is black'

BigBadMummy · 25/01/2010 15:28

Sorry I didnt mean it like that, at all. I was trying to show that I am not picking on her for any reason to do with her loss of a limb.

Which I agree must have been horrific.

Digging a bigger hole here I think.

RonaldMcDonald · 25/01/2010 15:35

Think the media hate her but there again they hated Linda McCartney whilst she was alive and deified her once dead

Think that saying she is a liar because her father stated she didn't have a terrible childhood doesn't mean anything.
How many fathers would admit to giving their child a dog's life in the press?

I think with most of the press stuff there was a grain of truth and they ran from there.

The press are particularly horrible to women and often we blindly accept their thoughts and slurs.

I hate it when one person in a media relationship is painted as a pantomime baddie and the other a saint...it is my first warning sign
