to think that tesco delivery is far superior to ocado.

This morning I had a thought - have heard so much good about ocado that i thought for once I would give it a shot and see if it's as fabulous as people claim...

So I registered and started adding items to my trolley - it was like supermarket porn - lots of lovely things that I can't get at tesco, lovely fresh fish/surloin steak/lovely fresh pepper sauce... I was in shopping heaven.

And then I went to book a delivery slott...

And discovered... that it's virtually impossible to get one within the next week...

Tesco on the other hand have slots available every day this week, pretty much at any time of the day..

So I'm afraid to say that ocado have lost my business before they even had it as the availability of delivery slots means they are simply not convenient, and I don't think I should have to shop at least a week in advance to get a slot to suit me.

I pay £8ish per month to Ocado to get free deliveries, as part of that I can book the same delivery slot every week. Otherwise I would agree, getting a convenient slot is a nightmare. Food is so much better though.

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 24/01/2010 11:33

No, tesco have always, without fail, given me food with a one day use by date, bruised fruit and useless substitutions (despite me ticking the 'no substitutions' box.

I plan a week in advance (have to now I am working), book a FREE delivery slot with Ocado and enjoy fresher and better quality food

I heart Ocado!

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 24/01/2010 11:34

I don't even pay teh monthly subscription. I will order my groceries on a Weds or Thurs evening for a Saturday eve delivery. They deliver free after 8.30pm which is great because I am putting the dc to bed and then hop into a lovely bath and dh received the delivery and puts it all way

wannaBe · 24/01/2010 11:35

but you wouldn't pay a monthly premium for something you haven't yet tried would you?

And because it seems I cannot try it, they will not only not get me as a monthly customer but they won't get my custom at all.

this is shockingly bad on their part IMO and they must surely lose a lot of custom because of it.

i hate Tesco the food is utter shite

crocdundee · 24/01/2010 11:38

ocado is wonderful! Nice ocado man even let my 2 year old have a look in the van - highlight of his week! Food at tesco's goes off quicker, and have never got a single delivery of mine right - hence me never using them again!

PrivetDancer · 24/01/2010 11:39

I generally book mine when I'm running out of stuff and there's always a slot within two days, and generally the next day. You must live in a frightfully posh area wannaBe. Or just too far from waitrose for people to go themselves.

TheArmadillo · 24/01/2010 11:40

Never tried Ocado (and won't) but hate tesco with a passion. Their customer service in any aspect of their business is shockingly awful (in supermarket, online, insurance services). As a result I won't use them for anything unless there is a desperate situation with no other alternative.

Absolutely pisspoor and 'cannot give a fuck we have plenty more customers' attitude infuriates me.

MadameCastafiore · 24/01/2010 11:41

You just have to be a bit more of an organised domestic goddess - Ocado does it because they don't want to deliver to unorganised housewives who can't get there arses in gear to write a menu plan and shop at least a week in advance for the lovely foodstuffs to make their beautiful recipes! (Tongue in Cheek emoticon please!)

I never have any trouble and pay the £10 a month so I can order everyday if I want to and not be charged for delivery.

Oh and Tesco and Sainsbury's food is shite compared to Waitrose stuff I am afraid - the amount of money I would save shopping elsewhere would be wasted as I would hacve to chuck half of the mouldy out of date crap they sent away.

wannaBe · 24/01/2010 11:41

see I've never had problem with tesco delivery, and although I agree that the dates are too short there's not really much choice is there when ocado slots are simply not available.

I need shopping delivered early this week as I am tied up for the next four weeks. I don't drive so the only way to get a big shop is to get it delivered.

So there is no other choice than to go to tesco.

Oops sorry, first one went to preview not post. How odd

LaurieFairyCake · 24/01/2010 11:42

The trick is also to book the slot first. Then they show you what's actually in stock to be delivered on that day.

say for example you put a Lindt chocolate bunny in your trolley but they weren't being delivered to the store for a week - ocado wouldn't show you a delivery slot til it was available for delivery.

So if you book delivery first - I've just booked for Monday evening then it only shows you groceries available at that time

MmeBlueberry · 24/01/2010 11:45

I get an Ocado delivery every Saturday between 8 and 9am. It is pre-booked, all-year round.

However, when I want to have an extra delivery, I haven't ever had a problem getting one for the next day.

We live fairly close to their distribution centre so there are probably loads of vans heading in our direction.

Just plan your shopping earlier and you will get your slot, and book it before shopping to avoid disappointment.

PrivetDancer · 24/01/2010 11:46

Erm, LFC, that's not true at all ime! When you book the slot it just says what things are unavailable, it doesn't give you a slot based on when your things will be available.
Although in happy to be proved wrong - wannaBe take the Christmas tree out of your shopping basket and try again.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/01/2010 11:50

Privet is does also tell you when things aren't available too. But I think it's an anomaly on a few sites (I've had it with Sainsburys before, was wondering why there were no deliveries in the next week so i logged out, emptied trolley and then booked delivery first).

I'm just suggesting it to give it a try as I've never (apart from Christmas) heard of anyone waiting a week for a slot.

cocolepew · 24/01/2010 11:51

When you say that a supermarkets food is nicer than anothers do you mean fresh food? I shop at Asda(!) for cerals, jars etc. but go to the butchers and greengrocers for fresh food.

MmeBlueberry · 24/01/2010 11:55

I've just had a look at the Ocado website. If I wanted a slot, I could have every one after 8am tomorrow, and from 6am - 11pm the rest of the week.

Crazycatlady · 24/01/2010 11:56

That's a shame Wannabe, I've always found Ocado excellent and no problem getting delivery slots within a day, or two days if I'm placing my order on the weekend. Agree with whoever said book your slot first and then shop.

I've used Ocado for a monthly stock up shop since DD was born a year ago, and in that time I have only had one substitution (bottle of port for a bigger bottle of port ), the driver is always on time, items are at the peak of freshness so last ages and the food is good quality.

Having tried Sainsburys and Tesco in the past and found them disappointing (bad quality food, many poor substitutions, late deliveries, use by dates too soon etc) I don't think I'd ever switch from Ocado.

I can't imagine why you can't get a slot sooner, that doesn't sound right at all.

hf128219 · 24/01/2010 11:59

I ordered at 9.57pm on Thursday

and got:
7:30pm - 8:30pm
Delivery date Friday 22 January

SoupDragon · 24/01/2010 11:59

There are fewer Ocado spots because of the free option to reserve your regular slot. I had an email from then asking if I was having trouble getting the slot I wanted and explaining it was down to the reserved slots and that I should try it. However, I never have trouble getting a slot that fits because I'm usually available for most slots

bronze · 24/01/2010 12:02

Well I find tescos better simply because ocado dont deliver here

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 24/01/2010 12:07

YABU

They are fully booked because they are so good The service between Tesco who let you down with 1 hours notice and Ocado who sit outside and wait for you to come home as they are early and have phoned and checked it is okay to deliver, is no comparison.

chocolaterabbit · 24/01/2010 12:08

I placed an Ocado order last night for heavy store cupboard staples - I managed to resist most of the delicious fresh food that time. The delivery is arriving at 1pm today and I've had the text to confirm it.

I love Ocado.

I got a bit fed up with Tesco because of the expiry dates and when I lived in a block of flats they made a real fuss about carrying the bags past the lobby to my front door, so I tended to get buzzed, come down 3 floors and find my shopping waiting for me to carry back up. Not fun.

navyeyelasH · 24/01/2010 12:09

why oh why can't I have ocado
