to think that tesco delivery is far superior to ocado.

This morning I had a thought - have heard so much good about ocado that i thought for once I would give it a shot and see if it's as fabulous as people claim...

So I registered and started adding items to my trolley - it was like supermarket porn - lots of lovely things that I can't get at tesco, lovely fresh fish/surloin steak/lovely fresh pepper sauce... I was in shopping heaven.

And then I went to book a delivery slott...

And discovered... that it's virtually impossible to get one within the next week...

Tesco on the other hand have slots available every day this week, pretty much at any time of the day..

So I'm afraid to say that ocado have lost my business before they even had it as the availability of delivery slots means they are simply not convenient, and I don't think I should have to shop at least a week in advance to get a slot to suit me.

Hi, I'm Annie and I work for Ocado.

I'd like to take a look at the level of slot availability we show you and it would be great if I could organise a member of Customer Services to talk to you and investigate the problem.

If you use the CAT facility, could you send me a private message with your e-mail address? If not, you can e-mail us at [email protected], and one of our Customer Services Advisors will look into the issue.

I hope the availability in your area improves soon.

PuppyMonkey · 25/01/2010 11:35

You see, you wouldn't get Tesco coming on here and doing that. Respect, Annie.

Casserole · 25/01/2010 11:55

Now there's an interesting baby names thread idea... Ocado Annie

I didn't know that ocado were cheaper than waitrose, I thought they were one and the same? Going to check that out now as I'm doing Tesco at the moment but I really don't like their food that much...

NoahAndTheWhale · 25/01/2010 12:02

I haven't used Ocado but just looked and I could have delivery tomorrow or any day in the next few weeks. And have seen that delivery is free on some days late at night.

mrsboogie · 25/01/2010 12:12

bloody hell! You would so not get Tesco doing that!

I love Ocado - am a total convert. The food quality, especially that of the meat, is fantastic - as good as a decent butchers any day. Delivery is 100% efficient IME. The text messages are very handy - especially when they tell you if anything was out of stock. The website is very user friendly and the cost is no more than any where else if you shop carefully. You get lots of nice free samples as well.

NoahAndTheWhale · 25/01/2010 12:26

Ocado has just emailed me to try and tempt me to shop with them

notnowbernard · 25/01/2010 12:29

I prefer to Ocado to Tesco, but use Tesco atm as it's cheaper (can only use Ocado when we've got a few bob )

I have NEVER had a late delivery with Ocado (have with Tesco)

Ocado far superior IMO when it comes to having all your items in stock

Never had to have crappy substitutions like with Tesco

Quite often get a free gift with Ocado (never had this with Tesco)

DaftApeth · 25/01/2010 12:30

I wish I could work for Ocado and be paid to --post- on MN [brin]

I am already an Ocado convert.

Rats. Must learn to preview.

Was the email signed by OcadoAnnie, Noah?

NoahAndTheWhale · 25/01/2010 12:44

No, it was her sidekick called Jon

DaftApeth · 25/01/2010 12:56

Have they actually offerd you any incentive though?

Or are the £50 vouchers a thing of the past these days? Friends used to get these a lot years ago but I never had any

I was obviously too easy!

TuppyGlossop · 25/01/2010 13:03

I love Tesco and will not hear a word against them. I live in the US and my elderly parents are in England and cannot get out to shop. I place an order for them every week from here and the lovely Tesco delivery man carries it to their kitchen and unloads it. He treats them with real respect and kindness. Any problem we have ever had they rectify it and put a voucher on my account. Tesco are the best!

meltedchocolate · 25/01/2010 13:07

of those who get internet shopping - not available here. I do it the old fashioned way and WALK AROUND THE SUPERMARKET.... urgh... tis hard life!

I have used Tesco in the past and they were terrible - food nearly past use by date etc etc.

But we have moved and i used Tesco again and they are excellent - they tell you if something has short life substitutions are very good and no problems - drivers on time and polite.

However i have used Ocado this week as i got a £15.00 off voucher for first time users - let me know if anyone wants it as well. Delivering Friday so will see how they compare

kif · 25/01/2010 13:20

i've never had a problem getting a slot - but long running problem with late deliveries.

We live near offices, and i think they distort the delivery schedule (takes longer to delvier to than a standard house). We've had deliveries arrive up to 4 hours late from ocado.

I tried to do a 'fancy food shop' at ocado for christmas - and was how many things they had 'out of stock'. So I'd click on christmas aisle, and I get a page full of things I'm not allowed to buy.

Tesco are fine. fresh food not so great, but ok. tinned and frozen are fine. It'll break the backbone of the 'family shop', and I can top up with froo froo fancy fruit and deli on my way home froim work, if I so wish.

DaftApeth · 25/01/2010 13:21

I can't remember the last time I had anything substituted by Ocado - months and months ago, and I have a weekly delivery.

Because it all comes from the same place and if you book your delivery first, the website only lets you order food that is available.

If my regular bread or pasta is not available, then I can choose my own alternative or get it elsewhere if it's something I really need.

I like the text alert reminders about up-dateing orders before the order closes and to remind me when it will be delivered.

iplaytherealtrumpet · 25/01/2010 13:26

I love Ocado but never buy fresh meat from them because they always just pack it any old how with all the other cold stuff. Tesco let me add a note saying 'please pack separately' for raw meat and fish, and it always comes that way.

It's a pity, as I usually only get organic meat (ex veggie), so I'd spend a fortune with them if I could order the meat there too. I just got fed up of finding packets of meat that were a bit mucky on the outside (they way they often tend to be in any shop) knocking around in bags with apples and yogurts and babybels and so on, so I stopped putting any meat in my orders. If I want a fresh chicken I do a Tesco order now or else we stop off separately at a shop to get it.

PootleTheFlump · 25/01/2010 13:28

What's the difference between Ocado & w
Waitrose? Ocado say they don't deliver in our area but Waitrose say they do. We don't have a Waitrose anywhere near us and I would love a fix every so often but am confused as why one would be cheaper/there are 2 online delivery services for Waitrose products?!

kif · 25/01/2010 14:01

you've got the difference in a nutshell:

they both deliver waitrose groceries in different parts of UK.

Ocado is a separate company that has an exclusive contract to deliver waitrose groceries in some parts of UK.

DaftApeth · 25/01/2010 14:20

I can get Waitrose and Ocado here.

Ocado have some of their own products and price match some of their products to Tesco.

So theyhave slightly different items.

I've always assumed Waitrose only deliver from their local stores so cover a smaller area.

got2loseit · 25/01/2010 14:33

I do prefer Ocado to Tescos too. Only problem I have is with packing. Ordered a Birthday cake for DS and they put it in with my cleaning materials!

Rollmops · 25/01/2010 17:00

What's wrong with Waitrose delivery? Never saw point in Ocado to be honest, they sell the same stuff, no?

renaldo · 25/01/2010 17:10

tesco are rubbish here in nottingham and ocado fab - deliverd all through bad weather and are polite and NEVER substitute

SoupDragon · 25/01/2010 19:52

Rollmops, because Ocado deliver in places Waitrose don't and vice versa. I can get Ocado but not Waitrose.
