to think that tesco delivery is far superior to ocado.

This morning I had a thought - have heard so much good about ocado that i thought for once I would give it a shot and see if it's as fabulous as people claim...

So I registered and started adding items to my trolley - it was like supermarket porn - lots of lovely things that I can't get at tesco, lovely fresh fish/surloin steak/lovely fresh pepper sauce... I was in shopping heaven.

And then I went to book a delivery slott...

And discovered... that it's virtually impossible to get one within the next week...

Tesco on the other hand have slots available every day this week, pretty much at any time of the day..

So I'm afraid to say that ocado have lost my business before they even had it as the availability of delivery slots means they are simply not convenient, and I don't think I should have to shop at least a week in advance to get a slot to suit me.

I do fresh fruit, bread and meat at the local shops, an approved food order every couple of months and get anything else in a once or twice monthly tesco online shop (along with the odd wander around the local co-op). No Ocodo round here, ASDA seem to have a problem with my cashcard and Sainsburys seems more expensive.

If only Booths was nationwide...I miss it! it used to be my luxury shop every now and again. I think there is a waitrose in Newcastle, but that is a bit of a trek just for a supermarket shop.

I would love the facility to add to my basket gradually, and paying for unlimited deliveries as well as being able to prebook a regular shop definitely appeals. I have amazon prime and it definitely makes me buy loads more from them.

I haveused Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose and Ocado for grocery deliveries.

Ocado is, IME, by far the best. They are the most reliable and the best quality products when they arrive. I can easily get slots. For example I only did my online shop on Saturday evening and it was delivered this morning.

Waitrose was also good quality and reliable. However I struggled with getting slots at times asthey only delivered at certain times/days in my area.

Sainsburys fruit and veg (fresh stuff) was rubbish quality. They often brought subs too, which were always dearer.

I didn't like Tesco at all, but then I don't like Tescos supermarket either.

Asda delivery was dire.

Hi, me again. Lovely to hear so many positive comments!

Thought I'd answer PootleTheFlump's question: 'What's the difference between Ocado & Waitrose?'

We're an independent company that delivers Waitrose products. Waitrose can be seen, simply, as one of many suppliers to Ocado ? alongside all the big brands like Nestle, Walkers, Coca-Cola etc.

Ocado has a unique business model; we operate from a single centralised warehouse, whereas Waitrose has its own online delivery service, Waitrose Deliver, which operates purely out of its stores. Our Waitrose range matches any of Waitrose?s biggest, flagship stores around the UK, and we have lines that they do not, for example exclusive wines.

Hope that makes sense!

OcadoAnnie...My sister got Asda eggs in her Ocado delivery last week. Flumoxed!

I once tried tesco and the delivery was 4 hours late with no communication or apology. Never again.

I have never had problems booking an Ocado slot. We often have a 10pm delivery in a free slot.

I think ocado is generally cheaper than waitrose but this week I have my £10 off waitrose voucher from the telegraph so will be in waitrose and then back to Ocado next week!

SaltireOShanter · 26/01/2010 08:17

I've never used Ocado/Waitrose. However, I won't go near tesco after shortbreadgate 2 years ago.

I had a lovely Tesco man last night, polite, helpful, yummy, no substitutions, but most of the shopping was covered in exploded Lenor from someone elses shop. Ming. He said he could take the stuff back and refund, but I needed it all, dammit. to you posh Ocado area people.

PootleTheFlump · 26/01/2010 13:23

Thanks OcadoAnnie - shame you don't deliver here!

We've just started getting our shopping delivered by Ocado. Last week, the driver carried everything into our kitchen and chatted to my 2-year old the whole time. It made her day. I think this week's driver was a bit at my 2-year old bouncing around shouting "I'm so excited" .

I've not had problems getting a slot - order on Mon for Tues delivery. Had no substitutions and got a free bottle of wine this week and have a voucher for another free bottle of wine next week . I think it's great that I've had approx £18 worth of free wine in 3 weeks.

I only ordered from them because I couldn't get on Tesco's website and a friend recommended them. I'd always thought they were expensive and OMG I was that it was no more than my usual shop. In fact, I think it must have been cheaper cos I got extra meat and stocked up on food cupboard stuff.

Am just about to sign up for the monthly delivery thing.
