Shopping in Waitrose this afternoon trying desperately to get baby to sleep in the process. Can't stay in the house currently during her big sleep as have builders in, so planned to do the big weekly shop. DD normally goes off to sleep like a dream but today decided she didn''t want anything without a fight.

I've learned to tune her out, apparently others havent. In the BABY aisle of all places, 2 OAP's blocked my trolley and said I was not allowed to leave the aisle until the baby stopped crying or I left the shop . DD in a sling btw. One of the OAP's SHOUTED that if I needed to 'shove your teat in its mouth then you better do it or I will take her myself and get someone to take you out'. Obv attracted other shoppers and security.

Manager came to see what the fuss was and after me explaining asked me to leave. I abandoned half-full trolley in serious flounce mode. I honestly they were being absolutely horrendously discriminatory against my crying newborn!!!! DH is being extremely unhelpful saying I should have left to 'take the high road' Do I actually have a legal case about this?

No I dont - but my sister because that what we are as close as - has two and shares my views - and she has two nice children which I would challenge anyone here to say they didnt want

pagwatch · 22/01/2010 22:00

booboo

erm. You do get that the op had a baby in a sling don't you?
Not sure how the stern talking to works with nursing babies...

My DS2 has ASD. If I hadn't left the house when he was likely to play up I would still be living near the twat in Boots

Paolosgirl · 22/01/2010 22:00

Think it might be better if you just go back to lurking

AnyFucker · 22/01/2010 22:01

booboo, yep, I recommend you reserve your childrearing for godparent status only....

DuelingFanjo · 22/01/2010 22:05

I am guessing Booboo really thinks unless you're a single parent you shouldn't take your kids in supermarkets?

or am I reading that wrong?

What's wrong with actually wanting to go out with your baby and be in the world doing normal things? Or are all mums supposed to stay in doors just incase their child offends the public?

I have seen many a harrassed mum with a screaming baby in a supermarket and I think it would be beyond rude for me to complain.

boobookins · 22/01/2010 22:06

Why should I have to suffer your wailing children because you cant calm them if I do not opt into child environments

As I said - two pervectly normal children have been brought up in that environment - I dont see how it is that hard

I offer to help if I see a harassed mum with a screaming baby

I say "can I get you anything"..or "go in front of me in the queue" or entertain tanting toddlers for a few minutes

they usually shut up for a few minutes when strange lady starts gurning at 'em

it ain't difficult

And old people who dawdle along the aisles

Young loved up couples who snog every 5 seconds

Anyone who wears a FCUK t-shirt

People who stand and chat to pals they've met on the way round and block your way

People who leave their trolley mid aisle and wander off to look for something

Yes, supermarkets are horrible places full of cretins and undesireables, but it's all part of life's rich tapestry. Suck it up, booboo (as I believe they are fond of saying where you come from), move on and take a Kalm or 3.

Actualy I'm a scouser who just has lived in the states for 25 years.

Yes YOU can "dump that medicine, formula, nappies, food there is no way you can dump your trolley in the middle of the store and head for the exit. "

BEcause you are prepared for your sprog being a sprog - you have what you need NOW and come back a few hours later for the stocks - and yes - it was a 40 minute drive to the store for the stocks

I've seen it - IT CAN be done if you really want to. You child is not a little ANGEL it is a BABY/CHILD and should be treated as such.

I am also back in the UK for 18 months - and I DO do my weekly shop in waitrose

No way do I believe the OP occurred in waitrose - but I still do not see why a two person couple has to drag screaming children around grocery stores - for some it almost seems like a family outing

TigerDrivesAgain · 22/01/2010 22:22

what a bizarre thread

Clearly this couldn't happen in Waitrose. The OP is putting us off the scent and it was really Lidl (not that I have ever been into a Lidl, even for "bits" but I have an imagination).

I have a friend who will only shop in Waitrose because of the better class of clientele (exact words "better class of punters").

Good Friday night entertainment though

MattSmithIsNotMyLoveSlave · 22/01/2010 22:26

Why should I have to suffer your wailing children because you cant calm them if I do not opt into child environments?

Why should we have to suffer your pontificating about parenting when we haven't opted into a childfree environment (the clue's in the name of the site)?

Because that's how life goes. You get to come on here and tell us all how your friend is a model parent and your godchildren absolutely perfect, and in balance newborn babies get to cry without getting a stern talking to. We have to listen to you, you have to listen to them. It's all part of life's rich tapestry.

A scouser who's lived in the States - that would explain things. Some of the best larfs on MN always come from the ones who don't actually have children (but know someone who does).

Anyway - back to the OP...

boobookins · 22/01/2010 22:31

Because in the 21st century people sem to think children are in ALL environments

Children are NOT the future - if they all died tomorrow - even your DDs your DSs et etc - the adults could breed again - - yes they could all die tomorrow - most of you could breed again

Children are NOT the future - Adults are and they set the rules - children are expendible -

It's hard to know whether to laugh or feel sorry for you

No it's not.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

smallorange · 22/01/2010 22:36

What I don't get is why OAPs insist on feeling the bread. Everytime I go yo Waitrose, one is there, giving a loaf a good old squeeze then doddering off. I don't get it.

Love Lidl.

pagwatch · 22/01/2010 22:37

Sorry Madame
please don't ban me.

I did once quite like a tabby called binky - and she is the cat in my stripper name...

I want to stay and learn from Booboo how to knowbe a good mother and all. And not kill all the children. All those important sisterly motherly lessons
