to think my manageress and deputy are bitches and in the wrong job?

I work in an office in a small team of immediate colleagues (4 of us al at the same level) and then our deputy and our manageress.

One of my colleagues (lets call her Dierdre) is a worrier. She mithers about every little thing and the tiniest thing can drive her into a frenzy of worry and stress. She also talks a lot, usually the same monotonous thing, usually about her home or what new wallpaper she's choosing. It's boring, but if it makes her happy to tell us about these things, then i'm pleased for her. Despite all the above, the woman is an absolute darling. Selfish sometimes, but a lovely, lovely person. She is easy to get along with, never talks badly about the other girls and is actually the only person I can ever talk to when I have a personal problem. We also laugh...a lot. Therefore, I count her as a good friend of mine.

Problem I have is with the other girls. They always slag her off, making bitchy comments, especially the manageress and the deputy. The deputy in particular always vents to us how horrible the shift with Dierdre has been, and how she has done this and that that wound deputy up. Manageress is just the same, telling us how much she dislikes Dierdre and how happier it would be if Dierdre wasn't here. Now, I think that is so unprofessional, not to mention mean, just horrible. I often feel like grabbing deputy and manageress by the collar and telling them to get a damned life, and to respect their team member a little more. Isn't what they're doing, is non-direct bullying? They make me so angry!

They sound very unpleasant. Maybe next time they start slagging Deirdre off you could gently request that they don't as you don't like to talk about her in that way?
No-one can think badly of you for wanting to pass on the bitchiness.

Do you say anything while they are bitching, or do you look as if you are agreeing with them? Letting them do this repeatedly and saying nothing to them or about them is in a way colluding in the nastiness.

It does sound like a bullying and of course uber unprofessional. If they are not happy with her then why not to bring it up with Dierdre directly? Bitching behind her back is vile especially if it's her manager doing this and certainly qualifies as bullying.

You might not be the only one wanting to grab them by their collars - what your other colleagues think of the bitching?

Is Deirdre aware of what's going on?

oh, sorry just re-read your post and see that other girls bitch about her to...

I?d have a word with your manager?s line manager if I were you. I detest bullies.
