To think that a child's world map jigsaw should have the lines of latitude in the right place?

I haven't done an AIBU for ages. I'm pretty sure that I'm not BU, but it'll do me good to vent pointlessly for a while.

It's this jigsaw by Ravensburger, who are surely big and reputable enough to know better. The lines of latitude are visible but, I think, too small to read in that picture. They are, as you'd expect, from top to bottom: Arctic Circle, Tropic of Cancer, Equator, Tropic of Capricorn and Antarctic Circle.

Notice, and fume with me, that the Arctic Circle misses Europe and Russia entirely. The Equator passes through India and high up in Asia (when it should be just below Singapore) and the Antarctic Circle nearly touches Tasmania.

I didn't buy it, it was a late Christmas present for DS. I don't suppose my aunt really looked at it when she bought it.

YANBU. That is it completely unacceptable. I would ban such a jigsaw from my house, but then I'm a sad act who is already dreaming about teaching dd (who is one) the world's capitals and flags.

Can I jsut point out that the Tropic of Capricorn usually goes through the north of Australia too...

DS1 (7 who is a lover all all things related to geography probably would have though. He has corrected my appalling geographical knowledge on more than one occasion

Buy the Habitat foam one - it is much more accurate.

obviously they've just printed on the lines and the map part separately (you can see that the equator is exactly in the middle of the puzzle) without thinking about lining the two parts up properly. they would have been better to put the lines lower down the page (as i'm assuming that's easier than moving the entire picture upwards).

oh, but obviously it's a map of the results of global warming, as there is no snow/ice in the arctic circle at all.
