for a cash-strapped LA?

We are in the process of moving to fortnightly refuse collection and weekly recycling collections. We were sent a form to order the boxes we needed and to indicate that we had noted the changed collection timetable.

It arrived on Friday 15th Jan. Had to be back by 20th Jan. With a weekend in between. With a £20 fine if it's late How many people will deal with this in time? And AIBU in thinking that the local council expected that?

that does seem crap. especially the fine!

exexpat · 17/01/2010 15:44

Could be that distribution of the letters was delayed by snow, but they were preprinted with the deadline already? I think if you or anyone else got slapped with a fine, you'd have a good cause of complaint though...

OrmRenewed · 17/01/2010 15:46

It could be exexpat. But with our district council I have learned to be very very cynical.

Since when were fines for late return of order forms enforceable???- sounds outrageous to me.

OrmRenewed · 17/01/2010 15:57

Apparently it's because there isn't much time before the new schedule starts. Which begs the question why they didn't get it sorted before.

That's outrageous!
A longer deadline was needed, and maybe a line that said 'if you miss the deadline there may b a delay in geting the number of boxes you require' etc.

Was there an online option?

Totally discriminatory against someone who works on a trawler or rig or actors on tour away from home for several weeks at a time!

OrmRenewed · 17/01/2010 16:00

Nope! No online option or I'd have done that.

Disgusting. But doesn't surprise me, coming from a council.

OrmRenewed · 18/01/2010 09:09

Our council is unbeleivable. I could write you a list of the appalling things they have done - not just stupid but (allegedly) corrupt. And the financial mismanagement is shocking.
